Hi I have a few questions re taking my SC on track for the first time. I have done a dozen or so days in a stripped Clio 172 with Rollcage, Harnesses, R888's etc, but this is now my road car.

What tyre pressures are recommended?

Any thoughts re the standard seatbelts?

Any problems with brake fade if we go for it?

Please let me know any advise that may help.

Many thanks

What tyre pressures are recommended? Keep tyre pressure around those you use on the road. Lighter cars generally running around 22F 24R... with later cars 1-2psi higher than that I'd say. As tyre temps rise, this means you will need to let air out of the tyre... and then probably pump them up before you head home.

Any thoughts re the standard seatbelts? They are adequate for road use and will do on track , but ideally on track you would be better with harness... for lots of reasons... safety, not sliding around in your seat on corners and getting a better feel for whats occurring with the back of the car cover some of them.

Any problems with brake fade if we go for it? Brake fade can happen.... makes sure the fluid is topped up. Out of the box... the car is up to doing the odd trackday, but if you start doing them reglarly and pushing on.... you might want to change to braided lines... better brake pads.... discs will be ok-ish until you wear them out.

Please let me know any advise that may help. Go along... have fun... try to avoid getting hooked if you can.

Done a few in mine, its did have harnesses & TRD filter fitted from new but other than that it's as it came out of the box. Search noddyR400 on youtube for some vids.

I previously had a Caterham R400 so it was a bit of a learning curve adjusting to the Elise.

As above, start off with around 23f/25r and see how it feels.
Seatbelts are fine to start with too but harnesses make a big difference.
As for the brakes, they'll do fine for your first couple of tds(they're not that bad really)but you may want upgrade to Pagids or Carbon Lorraines at a later date.
I've never had brake fade even on the standard pads.

Most of all just enjoy yourself but be warned, once you start upgrading it never stops....thumbup

For track use, harnesses were the best single upgrade I made. It made such a difference being clamped into the seat and not having to use the steering wheel to brace yourself. If you just plan on doing the odd one or two, it's probably not worth it but if track days become a habit then it's money well spent.

I've never had brake fade problems in an Elise - even on standard pads - advantage of a light car!

Neal.

put your seat back a couple of notches and tug the seatbelt tight, then get someone to shove you forward.
hey presto you are now locked in !
