On Friday I went for a drive to Cardiff in an old Astra and I've just arrived home in this 05 111R!

Sold my Type 25 4 years ago and I've regretted it ever since. So glad to be back and I'm loving the Toyota engine. There'll be lots of newbie questions to follow since I've been so long in a 'normal' car but the main thing I noticed on the long drive back to Newcastle was that when I got past 70 mph there was a lot of vibration in the steering wheel and the front end felt a bit bouncy. Is this normal or should I be checking the tyre pressures? Wheel balance maybe? Thanks in advance guys.

Always check/change the pressures as they normally get pumped right up!
23/25 or 24/26 cold are always a good start.
Check the wheel balance if that doesn't help

Nice choice by the way smile

If not tyre pressures, then wheel balancing next, if not wheel balancing then it's time to get the four wheel alignment done.

Indeed, and if that doesn't sort it, it's time to check bushes and perhaps look for a buckled rim.... more likely to be the cheap, easy things to fix though smile

111R is light in the front end but not usually till about 120 - 130.
Try tyre pressure or get a decent Geo - you will be surprised what difference a decent geo will make

Is that the one from Williams garage on Hadfield Road (next to Halfords.). Sure I saw it there when driving past couple of weeks ago, think they had a yellow one as well,

Nice colour!

You get movement fed back through the steering all the time and its worse where roads are really bad like round Cardiff. However, if the vibes are purely speed related then it will likely be a wheel balance issue or maybe a bent wheel. It wont be tyre pressures.

Yeah Red111 thats the one I got. Would have preferred black but the red is growing on me. Had a look at the yellow one and it was a nice car but just didnt like the colour.

Red is the way my friend! Wait until you see it on a sunny morning and all thoughts of black will stop.
