I tried very hard to remain faithful to the Lotus marque but this time it was not to be. Over the past six years I've had a new Elise 111R followed by a new Exige S and have been immensely satisfied with both however I felt the time had come for something a little more refined. I considered seriously the Evora, desperately wanting to be convinced but unfortunately, despite the great chassis, desire to be loyal to the brand etc I couldn't be persuaded. The Evora is unquestionably a superb car but for anything at that price point and upward I expect much better build quality and comfort than that on offer. I also wanted a cabriolet again as kinda missed open top driving since switching in the Elise. So it with some joy but plenty of shame that I've instead opted for a new Carrera GTS Cabriolet.

Alas it's not all bad news however as I'm keeping the Exige. I still love that car as much as the day I took delivery and continue to notice myself grinning uncontrollably when driving it. I think both cars serve very different purposes, the Porsche for refinement and the Exige for unadulterated fun - I just wish Lotus had turned out something in the last 3 years that would have convinced me to stick with the marque.

I've never understood the idea of favouring one marque over another just on the basis of the badge. People should drive whatever is the best car for them, whoever makes it.

Agreed. The GTS looks like a fantastic car.
