Import options for the Elise (into the US.)

This question is more out of curisity, as I just got an Esprit and am in no position to buy an Elise. But if one wanted to import a Euro spec S2, what are the options here in the US for registering?

I know you can import one for track only. But is there any way around the current reg. process, such as registering it as a kit car or some such thing?

Assume I would never intend to re-sell the car, so any work arounds that reduce value aren't an issue. But if I wanted an Elise for the road...

There was a guy on eBay selling Elise and Exige that he was importing to the US from Europe. He told me they were registered and just need to have the title transferred to the state you lived in.
