Europas - why such dowdy colours?! :-)
Discussion
I have half an eye on Europas because i think one would suit me well.
still compact car but more spacious than an elise (6'4" and 16stone)
but i have a question (albeit a girly one) - why are the vast majority of the ones that are ever actually for sale in such weak or odd colours?!
(i don't really mean any offence BTW!)
if you want a metallic gulf/pensioner blue one you'd be well served.
and if you wanted a drab metallice beigeygreen with odd shiney wheels you'd have a decent choice.
but the royalish blue like the one will blackman has sold
or even a black or gunmetal (yes i know that's dull but with black wheels it looks kind of 'hard'!)seem conspicuous by their absence.
does anyone know why? were they just spec-built by lotus and run as management cars or whatever? even then why? they don't look very 'sporty'.
i'd still have a light blue one if i had too vecause they look 'fine'..!

your right most are in dark colours as this is what they did the demos in (especially grey).
In the flesh grey does work well but if you want another then there are a few black ones around and I have see dark met red which works well.
good luck in the hunt, I have had my black one for 3 years and still love it to bits.

i think this is what i'd like:

___
seems to be very few available.i know in some corners they're viewed as a bit of a black sheep of a lotus but i like them*.
'*classic proportions, still light, bit more oomph. reliable enough engine. only really the back lights that's a bit odd otherwise i think they're great.

and this is the 'weak blue'. although to be fair with black wheels it looks better than silver:

Better with those wheels but it's a colour that makes an exige look dull.http://cdn.images.pistonheads.com/aimg/2387/238770...
I mentioned a white one on another thread actually, that with black detailing looked pretty special.
Lovely cars, so much better looking in the flesh than in photo's
Go try one out!
Even with such small production numbers, there is a reason there are not many on the market......

IMHO I think dark colours work best...

I think the angle they are photographed from also makes a lot of difference. They're a difficult car to get right even with a good colour. Generally, I think the darker colours are better on the Europa as the lighter ones can look a bit washed out.
The tan leather does look a bit weird in photos. As with most things to do with the Europa, it looks better in the flesh. Personally, I like the plain black interior, but some of the Lux Pack trims (other than tan) look quite good too. The best one I saw was on a one-off anniversary edition which Lotus made for one of the car shows a while back. Exterior was a kind of sparkly diamond black with a classic quilted black leather trim inside.
