A great example by the looks of it, but, for that price, why would you buy it over a S2 Elise.

I actually love these cars, and if the Elise had to go, I'd probably look for a M100 turbo, but it'd have to be half that price.

When the Elise first hit the showrooms (all those years ago) the Elan had a bit of a resurgence due to some customers being drawn in by the hype of the new whizzy car, but the reality of a rattly aluminium bathtub wasn't what they were expecting.
Their eyes were then drawn to the dumpy looking car in the corner. The roomy one with the carpets, electric windows, power steering and a hood which could be lowered in a few seconds.

There's definitely a market for a dynamically sound convertible but without the compromises that an Elise forces on the owner. The one in the advert, although expensive, looks lovely and shouldn't have too much trouble finding a new home.

I had one and absolutely loved it - not really a comparison between an Elise and an Elan though - two totally different cars.

Thats probably the most expensive Elan i have seen for sale, you can get a really decent one for under £8k.

Firstly the price, although low mileage and in good condition, is way up at the top end and some.

As for comparing with an Elise, you can't really because they are a completely different drive altogether.

But they sure are a fun drive.

I would, they have really aged well and look great on the road. Handles like any Lotus and every hairdresser in town has an Elise.

I wouldn't have one as an alternative to an Elise as they are very different cars, aside from being two-seater convertibles. I'd consider it more as an MX5 alternative from a price and practicality viewpoint.

That ebay one is overpriced, however good it is, but it only takes one person to think it's good value for it to sell, so good luck to him. Plenty more sensibly priced ones in the classifieds:
