Further to my earlier post on SELOC, below, to which it was suggested the CDL unit had gone, I've been using the key to lock/unlock the doors, which was fine until the fecking central locking decided to lock itself - Bloody heap of plastic poo mad

I can't really call out the AA again as it's the same problem. I can gain access tomorrow with a bit of patience and a loop of wire idea

However, not sure what to do then, before I can get it fixed -
  • leave it unlocked - it'll probably lock itself again
  • leave the roof off - it's wet and I don't have a garage
  • leave the window down a bit - as above
I'm not sure if there's any connection, other than Lotus' incredibly ste build quality, but the side-lights switched themselves on last night (taking out and replacing the little panel by the switches cured this) and the heater resistor pack is on its way out (lost speed 3).

I could try replacing the CDL unit myself, but from the wiki it looks like a lot of hand mangling hassle and it might not fix the probem - why do they go in the first place - water ingress?

It's not covered by the AA warranty as it's to do with the locks smash

Or I could get a garage to do it for frown £££

"Got back to my car the other night and central locking just clicked and the pins on the doors wouldn't raise. Guessed (wrongly) it might be the battery in the key-fob - new battery and spare key - no luck. Doors were dead-locked so couldn't get in with key.

Called out the AA - tried battery charger, jump starting battery off his van - no luck. Battery officially knackered. Tried new battery- no luck. Checked fuses - no luck. He phoned a friend... opened door with a loop of wire pulling up the pin - very technical

Fitted a new battery - big thanks to Halfords who exchanged the old one (only a year old) without the receipt which I hadn't kept.

Tried the central locking again with brand new battery (with the roof off this time - so I could pull the pins up manually) - locked once but wouldn't unlock again. Key fob still turns off the flashing immobiliser light and fuses must be OK. I've now disconnected the battery to see if leaving it off for a longer period of time resets anything.

Any thoughts" madmad

It's your CDL module gone faulty, It's quite common.
The dash comes out fairly easily for access to the module, it's mainly held in by loads of self tappers, approx 30 mins work (max)to remove it.
The module is screwed down on the drivers side.
It will be impossible to replace it correctly without removing the dash, unless you are really rough or a butcher.
As for gaining access when it is locked, censored

ETA

Sorry for the edit, but even I now know how to get in! Remember it's as public forum.

Suggest you mail him that last bit. smile

Remove fuse 22 7.5amp(brown in colour) from the fuse box holder underneath the n/s/f access panel.
This controls the central locking only, won't affect your immobiliser as this will still passive arm after 20seconds.
So you won't ever have it locking itself on you again, plus you can rectify the cdl module at your own convenience
Hope this helps

On a 2005 111s slot 22 isn't used for any fuses. I guess it varies between models. None of the fuses are specifically labelled as anything to do with central locking in the manual either.

Any way I managed to get in in under 2 minutes eek
