Hi Guys,

I am just finalising the purchase of a 55 plate Elise Sport Racer from a friend of mine who has decided they just don't use it enough.

It looks a super car so I just plan to get it checked for complete peace of mind by Lakeside Engineering in Addlestone as they seem to get a generally good write up on the forums as being experts on this and other Lotus cars.

I also have been phoning around for insurance quotes which I thought might be of interest to some people. I tried the usual price comparison sites and the best quote was from Esure for around £650 per annnum. (37 years, 7 years NCD) which I thought was way too high bearing mind this is just a car to use on the occasional weekend. I also tried Adrian Flux and despite their sticky post on this forum suggesting they would be competitive their best quote for just over £700. (To be fair I have used Adrian Flux before to insure my old R400 and they were exceptional so perhaps they prefer the kit car market?)

Then I phoned Competition Car Insurance and received a quote of £404 for same cover with £250 excess. This also includes 6 x track day insurance (albeit with an excess of £1250). Whilst I don't plan to use the track day option due limited time I thought it seemed a pretty good deal.

If it is of interest their site is www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk and their number is 0844 8921966

Cheers, Ed.

Good info but CCI are well known in Lotus Circles. You could also try Henderson Taylor, both mine are are with them.

Quick update; car checked over at Lakeside Engineering and given a clean bill of health so I have purchased car today.

Thanks Zebedee for the suggestion to call Henderson Taylor. They gave me a quote of £330 for 12 months, fully comp, which I thought was excellent so I decided to take that offer.

Have just booked car back in to Lakeside later this week for some new tyres and brakepads as the old ones were getting close to the end of their life.

Cheers, Ed.

I was in the same boat, CCI gave me a cracking deal last year, and I thought they'd screw me on the renewel as most companies do.

It dropped by £50: 111r, 37 yrs old, full no claims, protected, North London, 3k miles per year & garaged... £450

Im very happy,
CCI ROCK!

My renewal came through yesterday at a smidgen over £600, for the Elise and our 2 other cars combined on Admiral's multi-car. I never considered them as a likely insurer for the Elise before I did the rounds last year, but they were the cheapest for the Elise on its own (about £290 IIRC), and the combined figure for all 3 cars was half what we were paying before.

Being 50 and living in a rural area both help of course smile

Truly strange I know, but I went all the way around the houses last year and found that Elephant.co.uk were about 3 times cheaper than everyone else, including specialists! I got my new Exige S PP insured for less than the cost of my old 111R, without a tracker needed too...

Just renewed my insurance on my Elise Sport 135 - CCI quoted £429 with 6 days track day cover included for free. £110 cheaper than the best my insurer of 4 years could achieve. To be fair, my old insurer really did up their game for me (so I'd big them up anytime, they are really great), but they just couldn't come down to that level.

Thanks for the info guys, PH rocks!!

Cheers all for the suggestions.
Having played around with comparethemarket/moneysupermarket, etc. The best I was getting was £800+ (31yrs, 2nd car, 3k miles a year, 10 yrs NCB) which put a dampner on my enthusiasm for owning one considering the limited mileage I was going to be doing.

Anyhow, I called CCI on the back of this thread and they came out at c.£400!! Much more like it...

I must double check that they have all the facts right but still - what a difference!

For once an insurance company has come up with a more than sensible quote!!!

Just bought my third S1 elise (cant seem to get away from them!) and after looking on this thread decided to give CCI a call as the track day cover is of interest. I've never had a cheaper quote on anything in my life!!!! Worked out at just over £400 including breakdown cover and 6 trackdays (extra £1000 excess with the track cover obviously) thats based on me at 28 years old with 9 years NCB. Bring on the summer!!!

good stuff, my HT quote is similar, bit less, 6 free trackdays but then I am 6 years older than you. Cheaper than last year, that is the main thing!
