Janspeed Kit for Elise S2

Extra 26bhp for £2K

Amongst the myriad of performance upgrades available to the Elise owner is the new Janspeed J205 package for the non VVC Elise S2.

The kit includes a new cylinder head, free flow 4-2-1 tubular exhaust, new catalyst and sports exhaust system plus a new induction system. Janspeed claim power is raised from 102bhp to 128bhp (at the wheels). A 25% torque increase is claimed too.

Price is £1999 including fitting.

Same price (if the VAT thing is correct) as the PTP Sport kit, claimed 140bhp . . . ITG Airbox, Janspeed sports cat, Janspeed Stailess Silencer, Cylinder head . . .

When it all comes down to it and once all the margins disappear . . . there does seem to be a cost per bhp . . . and it's very similar no matter who makes the kit . . .

Quite interesting

If you wanna chuck away your money!

IMO buy a car that has already got the upgrades from the factory. Say a S160 or an exige etc etc.

These kits can create alot of problems if you want to sell the car on and also beefing the engine up will make it *more* unreliable.

LoL
since when is reliability a problem with 140hp?? never heard of that if you get near the 180-200 figures yes i agree. I rather buy a upgraded car than a std. where you have to spend loads of money before it has some grunt

gLOL

Reliability has to be questionned on aftermarket kits.

You must be one of the very few people who would buy an *upgraded* car without asking for a reduction in price.

So the standard liz has no "grunt"? I disagree. My last 2 liz's were faster than TVR's, various Porsches, M3's etc round various tracks. Now if you are taking on a 360 or a GT2 it would be a different story.

The Elise is about handling not "grunt".

Leave it alone IMO.

Aside from the obligitory hurricane and Janspeed for the sound of course, joy

Couldn't agree more. It never ceases to amaze me how many owners constantly crave more power. I admit at times I also ask the question but I, like many others have not exploited the cars abilities in it's standard tune.

An elise with 250bhp will only go round a corner at the same speed as a standard car with 120bhp, given a similar suspension/tyre set up, & if the corners are close enough together where's the benefit.

It will be interesting to see the results of the Top Gear exercise comparing the various models around the same track. I suspect the second or two variation between all model variants would not be noticed by most, in most situations. If you track your car regularly and those fractions are important to you go ahead and mod. However, if you are embarrased by a diesel golf overtaking at speeds well in excess of the speed limit, on a long straight stretch of road, then perhaps you choose a more suitable route for your journey. It's a shame not to

Regards, Neil

PS I reserve the right to ignore the logical argument set out above :headsmiley: and modify my car to some rediculous degree at some point in the future :heartsmiley:

It might be pertinent to mention here that round Mallory I was lapping as fast as an S2 190, S1 Exiges & a VXT in my standard S2.

The 120 bhp Elise is a bit crap at overtaking on the road though. Once a car is doing >50mph you have to pick a moment very carefully.

you can never have enough power

you can argue it either way - everyones different...I like to go around corners fast and not get left behind on the straights either
