Hi - after a 200 mile drive with the engine temp running at about 89 - 95C down the motorway (normal for my car), when stuck in the London traffic it rose to 114C and started flashing.

I also felt a strange vibration through the floor / pedals when moving off from a low speed in 1st or 2nd gear - there was a quiet 'clunk' sound which accompanied this.

Any ideas what the problem may be - the vibration went after a brief stop, but the engine temp keeps rising to 100+ when stuck in traffic.

It's a 14 month old 111S. On the plus side I kept to a steady 60 - 70 and managed 48mpg!!

cheers,
Dave

thats not good - keep an eye on your coolant level...thats what happened to my car when it had head gasket failure a year ago...if you catch it early you should be OK - presume the car is still under warranty? - take it to the dealer for a checkup

Bogie - which dealer do you use? I'm just up the road from Essex in Canary Wharf area...

Yeah wilsons are ok, and they pick my car up from Westferry. To be honest though if your car is a possible HG failure I'm not sure you want to drive it as you could end up lunching it. As Bogie says you need to get it looked at asap to minimise damage and even driving it to Essex could kill it. I guess its all covered by warranty, but an engine rebuild will take a lot longer than a gasket change.

hmmm..... Mine was doing that the other day. It even dropped low enough for temp not to register! Then the choke started kicking in!
Apparently it's a thermostat fault.

Temp reducing to a value too low to be read is unusual - that may actually be a real problem ;-(, but the temp will momentarily reduce when you accellerate the engine IF the radiator is cool, that's just the way the cooling system works . . .

Oh . . . there is no choke.
