Price was ridiculous so I did an HPI and bank balance check
All seemed good, so I phoned expecting to be able to go round tonight and put a deposit if it checked out okay (car is located just down the road from me too!)
Sadly they'd had someone phone within ten minutes of the car going up, turn up, pay and say thank you.
Must have been okay then I suppose. Gutted, would have been a bit of a bargain on the face of it.

That is mega cheap! I turned down an offer for my higher mileage S1 of more than that!
(Admittedly I turned it down because the car wasn't for sale, but even so...)
Cheap indeed.(Admittedly I turned it down because the car wasn't for sale, but even so...)
No disrespect to Elise owners, but I still think there's a slump around the corner with respect to prices.
Cars on the market are plentiful, prices very similar across the board, still I suppose they're rarely primary cars, and sellers are reluctant to let them go anyway, keeping prices up.
I've still not even been in an S2 and can't remember what the S1 was like (last drove 9 years ago), must get out in one, and see what they're like.
I'm still set on a Caterham, but wouldn't have turned down that bargain.
It has to have something wrong with it for that price on an s2.

My that was a good price for the buyer, and a nice colour too. But remember, there is always someone who just wants to shift his/her car, for reasons, usually financial, that may be disclosed or not. For every "bargain", there are 10's of others out there, at what we might term, the correct price, I would have thought that car was worth £9500-£10K all day long. A previous thread had speculated on what as owners of Elises, we might do in the interim period, as Lotus re-aligned there model range, and I was tempted to comment, but resisted. I also posted wrt to my ownership potentially shifting from Elise to Boxster type etc, and received, quite rightly, many replies pointing out, that I had already one of the great sportscars available. I personnaly think that the value of Elises will hold, then start to inch upwards, because I don't think we are going to see their like again, from Lotus, and the replacement in whatever guise it comes is going to be sooo much more expensive. I think our little cars are going to drop into the Caterham mould, with many being kept and rebuilt, and both S1 and S2 reaching that classic status.

POssibly, but my mother acquired a 2001 Audi TT (225) Cab for £5k a few years ago, because her friend was going bankrupt and they were going to take it anyway, he had £4500 ish outstanding on the HPI so she cleared that and took title and gave him £500 in cash.I was worth nearer £10,000, so you can get lucky sometimes.

Really? The fact that they're going over to France by the boatload, and the fact that all you can get new now is the 'economy' 1.6, I'd say prices will stay fairly firm. The Crack Fox said:

My last car is for sale in the classifieds... sold it to Will Blackham, S2 £8,995 I believe.. it has had everything done to it, brand new suspension alloy rad, hurricane.
worth a look.
it you go see it give it a kiss form me.
I've had my eye on your exact car ! Quartz Silver, right ? Will won't be interested in my PX (My 330ci) and I don't have time to flog it privately before Chrimbo, but if he still has it in January I'll be knocking his door... worth a look.

It's supply/demand I'm afraid, these loadsa elises 4sale and an easy buyers market. My wife looked at several after selling her Morgan, howeevr what really put her off was the parts prices, and BS from the dealers, & lack of a local elise only club. She eventually bought a Caterham which is much rarer [& holds its £value] though at least as drivable, and faster, even though there are plenty of dicks in the Caterham club, there are a few decent types, at least some of 'em drive the cars well which is what she required from the club, unlike the Morgan club who are into DJ's & posh frocks
So if you own an elise get use to the tumbling prices, after all it's used as a 2nd car of which there are plenty 4sale.

Make of it what you will about depreciation. Bought mine for 13.5k 2 1/2 yrs ago in the summer sold it last week in the autumn for 13k. thats some hideous depreciation...................So if you own an elise get use to the tumbling prices, after all it's used as a 2nd car of which there are plenty 4sale.

Caterhams do hold their value incredibly well and yes they are as driveable but not as practical. They really are a fun car and not something that can be used easily as an everyday car whereas a lot of people use Elise's as daily drives. There are plenty of Elise's around however if you compare the classifieds now to say 12 months ago there are a lot less available. I believe that will become even less now that people can't upgrade to new R and SC models. Just my 2 pennies.
