I am presently on the lookout for a S2 Elise and have been a bit confused over the rear badging.
Are they age/model dependant?
The two I can see are the traditional circular one or "L O T U S" in separate silver lettering.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Generally, and please bear in mind that Lotus is a small volume car builder S2 cars both the Elise/Exige models built up to model year 2006 have the round yellow badges. So cars built from around September 2005 onwards have the LOTUS name on the rear.Other changes where made to the lights and pedals at the same time.

My previous S2 111s had LOTUS on the rear and it was a '04 model but these letters had been put on by the previous owner !

There was a recent thread on SELOC about this, it seems to depend on two things - 1) age of the car (around 03/04/05 seem to have badges) and 2) whatever Lotus had available at the time (e.g. my '03 car has letters).

Thank you very much for the reply.
It is pre 2005 cars that I have been looking at and was not sure if I was missing something.

Yep - it certainly doesn't denote anything other than "what happened to go on the boot at the time".

My '04 elise had a badge, my '06 Exige the letters.

My 56 plate has L O T U S on the back but I had that changed to the raised lettering rather than stickers.

Letters were on the earlier cars (my 2001 S2 had them), then the round badge appeared around the time of the E badge on the buttress (2003ish), and then Lotus went back to the correct badging later (not sure when, 2006?). Oops, might have been slightly partisan there.

My April '05 Exige had the lettering, the badge got dropped as standard around the end of '04 or early '05. However the factory will sometimes do requests to order; they put the transfer LOTUS lettering on my '08 S rather than the raised block lettering which was current at the time.

I thought that the basic rule of thumb is that the round green/yellow badge replaced the letters in 2004. This change lasted for around 18 months before letters were reintoduced bu customer demand.

I know it's entirely subjective, but I'm not a fan of the round badge at the rear of the car.

Thanks for all the replies folks, it is much clearer nowrolleyes
Since my original post I have bought a 2004 Elise which some kind sole had stolen the circular rear badge from.
There is no paint damage so I have the uption of replacing with either.
From what has been posted it is not uncommon to change them so I think I will go with the individual letters that I prefer.
Can somebody point me in the correct direction of where to purchase them?
