Hi, I have seen the results of a snapped toe link on another elise and it is always in the back of my mind. I do a few track days each year (road tyres only)and I am trying to decide on the best option.

Has anyone used the ones from elise shop http://elise-shop.com/toe-link-kit-elise-exige-340...

Any advice appreciated

I think they all get good reviews, Elise Shop, Elise Parts, Nitron, splitfire? and I think two more companies that produce them. I asked on seloc not long ago and on VX owners club and I think for value for money and design people like the elise parts kit as it places the inboard bolt in double shear unlike some of the others. Everyone loves the Nitron one but at £650 its a bit steep.

Surely if you're running road tyres and only doing a few td's a year then is there really any need to replace them?

I've just ordered an EP kit to fit over the winter (soon). I've done 8 trackdays this year on road tyres and inspecting the car this week the inner driverside ball doesn't look to be straight anymore..

Define a few?

Only takes one bad kirb to break one, you may never hit it in 100 trackdays, you may hit it on the first....

Is it really worth the risk?

The OP said 'a few',i do about half a dozen a year plus two 2500 mile+ trips around Europe.
You could break one on a kerb driving on the road or get a puncture at 70mph on the motorway and get spat off(or get run over by a bus)etc etc.
Depends how you view the risk i suppose but there are plenty of other 'could happens'.

/I reserve the right to withdraw these comments when my toe links break tongue out

it's been said before many times, they also break with road use only, the real answer to this is to keep a regular eye on them, along with all the other stuff that should be on a regular checklist.

After having checked with the experts I have ordered uprated toe links. You cannot tell by checking them when the standard ones are going to let go.
If you do track days they are must have. I know of one case where one let go on The Ring and the results were not good. Better safe that sorry for £300 odd plus fitting.

hehe

I took a perfectly good original set off mine, but only because the car had twice the power originally intended for the car and run 888's on track.

Had the EP kit fitted (mostly) at trackclub on Friday, had an unexpected problem as the brackets for the subframe didn't fit my VX. It appears that the subframe is more S1 than S2 but identical to neither. EP are going to fabricate new brackets for me and I can then fit them as trackclub did the hard work of drilling the holes, fitting the rest of the kit and a geo. Excellent service and great value for the amount of work done smile

We use the Hangar111 ones, beautifully made, very light and they also do an option with a chassis brace.
