Hi people thinking of putting a push start button in my S1, is it easy to do and has anyone else fitted one to their car? Cheers

Piece of cake.

The starter will happily fit in one of the "Spare" dash buttons (demon tweeks etc sell a variety).

I believe there is a guide to fitting one on http://home.t-online.de/home/arno.karwath/elisediary_eng.htm

Im sure there are a lot of other guides out there on the net, it's a pretty common modification.

Be careful when you fit it. I've had the AA out twice to what I thought was a battery problem but it turns out its to do with the start button. Seems that there is either a short in the button or where the wires run, one has rubbed and caused a problem. After bypassing the button everything has been fine.

Also don't expect anything special in quality. I was quite disappointed. It was more of a home made effort than a quality item. I'm now looking at buying a good quality push button from RS/Maplin etc. If you can find the wiring instructions on the net then buy the button seperately. Then find an old hazard/fog/light button to fit in the dash and mount the start button into it.
