Brakes, lights, exhaust, interior, ECU. Only suspension left to sort out.

Depends on your use, road or track?

Looked at this car recently. I was the first to look at it so the owner asked me to wait a week or so as he wanted to see what interest was in the car.

It has been for sale for over 1 month now...

http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseactio...

I has an induction filter (correct term?) fitted to the engine which gives it 10bhp more..and has the Exige front splitter, and Exige wheels (are the Exige wheels lighter than standard 111R wheels?)

Induction will not add any power and nor will decats or exhausts without a complete remap of the ECU (which is actually what will give the power anyway). All an induction kit or exhaust will do by themselves is create more and possibly a nicer noise.

Standard Y spoke Exige alloys are actually heavier than the normal Elise 8 spokes but not by much and TBH you would never know. Far more gains to be made elsewhere in terms of weight saving if thats what you are after.

Be worth taking the splitter off to see if it is hiding any clam damage underneath but not a bad looking car.

Is it a big job to take off the splitter? i.e. IfI took a second look could it be taken off in minutes and put back on easily?

Yep..he didn't drive the car in 1 year..the engine bay was covered in cob webs..is like new...

The 111r stickers are missing from the front sides, aswell as the e log near the fuel cap..are these easy enough to buy?

Splitters normally just bolt on but that one is not OEM. It's not an Exige splitter, they wouldn't fit an Elise clam. So it may be bonded on with Sikaflex which would be a problem to remove. Either way you need to get the car jacked up to check.

More worryingly is why the stickers are missing. Sounds like the car has been repainted at some point. Stickers don't fall off on their own. Missing stockers on the front clam, splitter... could point to something or be nothing more than a car park bump. I'd be asking several questions.

From what I know, the car was largely tracked.
I think the body had some chips and had a full respray..

Not unusual for a car to have a repaint if used on track. Mines had front and rear clams repainted and is just about to have the sills and pods done again. But, at least I replace the stickers!

If it's been used "enthusiastically" it would be worth getting a Lotus dealer to do an ECU dump to check if the engine has been buzzed and talk to the seller about what the non-essential maintenance. I change the oil on mine every 3-4 track days, bleed the brakes a bit after every day and do a complete fluid change every 5-6 days. Bushes etc get checked and greased every couple of months.

Nothing wrong with cars being tracked as long as they are looked after.

That looks like a tigga splitter like mine. They come 'blank' so you can either bond or bolt them depending on your preference, or in many cases like mine they are bonded and bolted as well so may not be easy to get off, but TBA taking it off may not reveal that much anyway if its been resprayed. Nice looking motor.

In which case you are going to have to trust the seller and go on previous invoices for parts and work etc. I'd ring Lotus customer service with the build number and just double check it's not an "ex-experience" car.

Other than that if it drives okay, looks okay and has no untoward history it is probably a good car. Just don't jump at the first thing to come along.

First mod is to get the ECU reflashed to lower the cam change point. The engine is like an old school turbo otherwise, no power then all the power. You don't need to do anything else but you will wink

Removed Lotus ECU and chucked in a Motec, this had a lot of issues and the stack dash is removed and replaced with a AIM one.
Built 1.9 stroker low compresion engine. This has a lot of issues.
GT2871RS turbo plus manifold and 3" exhaust. This has a lot of issues.
S2 Elise Audi powered intercooler. This has no issues but is inadequate.
E154 Gearbox, miss 6th gear but the LSD is awesome fun and its a strong box. No issues.

In general with turbo Elise's the main problems seem to be heat. I may have to hack some of my bodywork away.

Nitrons. Good !
