I just bought single day cover for this Sat. Cost 151 quid for 12k of cover (-1800 excess I think) with me and gf driving and ARDS qualified instructors permitted too.

I do it because I don't want to underwrite the risk. Some people don't but most do I find. Depends on your wealth vs value of the car. Most things will probably come in less than the excess on that and if you do 10 trackdays a rear thats 1500 quid in insurace.

If I could change insurers to get one which included trackday cover I'd just do that instead to be honest. Much cheaper for most. I've got insurance through work though and its so cheap its better for me to do things this way.

Are you going to Bedford this Saturday Dan? I'll be there, but I wasn't planning on getting insurance - things were pretty tame last time I did a SELOC day there and I didn't feel there was any risk.

Yeah the insurance is for this Sat at Bedford. Say hello if you see me. I have a PH sticker in the rear window

Whilst bedford is pretty safe I know that someone wrote their car off there at the start of the year! Have to be pretty unlucky though, its true.

Only downside is that because its so 'safe' you get a lot of people driving right at and beyond their limits so a lot of spinning cars to avoid! (and I'd be the first to admit I span there 3 or 4 times last year on my first trackday ever.)

Personally I just don't want to underwrite the risk so I get the cover. I totally understand why some don't though as its as safe as a track can get. Also my GF is driving too and its her first trackday. I think she'd be even more nervous without cover.
