I am now looking at buying a sports exhaust!!

As my clutch did not cost what I thought it was going to (see burning smell!!!)

Thought I should spend all the money I had earmarked for clutch on something else for my car.

So I have between £400 and £500 for improvements!!

So want a nice new Sports exhaust of course!!

Would like some opinions on what I should buy?!?

Plus what else I can purchase for my hard earned cash??

S1 or S2?

If its an S1 go for the Eliseparts 'zorst.

Beautifully made and sounds superb. Leave the cats in or it will be too loud.

It sounds nice and throaty at low revs and screams when you are giving it some stick.

If you have spare cash, then get an air filter as well. A K+N is cheap (£50) and makes a big difference to the noise but little to performance. A Hurricane (£140 from Eliseparts) sounds great and also increases performance a little.

Don't forget to tell your insurance company about the mods! These basic mods won't cost you anything with most insurers.

Let us know what the exhaust is like, Roadrunner. I have an R too and have been thinking about doing this. Is it the Lotus fitted one?

If you are after a bit of a power hike then you probably need to do the whole induction and exhaust system. This means induction/filter, exhaust manifold, sports exhaust and sports cat. I had an ITG induction and Janspeed exhaust which sound terrific. Unfortunately I'm still running it in so I can't comment on the performance impact yet. The dealer said he thought the whole set probably gave about an 8 bhp gain at the top end and a small improvement in torque ( mines an s2 vvc 156 bhp engine). Haven't seen this verified by any test data though.

I've got a Pipercross Viper induction, and a sports exhaust which I don't even know the brand of! I'm really happy with how it sounds but it was on it when I bought the car, so don't really know the difference from standard!

Anyone think they could tell the exhaust by a picture?! Sorry if this is a slight hi-jack of the thread!

James, post a pic of your exhaust in a new thread and we'll try to identify it.

The Larini exhaust is apparently a nice option on the S2. My one is no longer available but nice too. Personally I dislike the Janspeed, sounds like a loud, overlubricated fart (imho!).

Hmmm, I need this in an FAQ

As per DanH I'd recommend the Larini, much, much nicer than the JanSpeed (yes, I had that fitted before so I'm not talking outa my ass)

At the end of the day it's all down to personal choice and opinion though.

Cheers,
Rob

Got a Janspeed fitted as part of the deal when I bought the car, it's OK.

However, given the choice the Larini looks Excellent value too IMO!
