Lamborghini has officially announced a Cessation of Horsepower Hostilities: the war is over!....
....
As such, this Sesto Elemento gets the Gallardo's 5.2-litre V10 wrung out to 562bhp, but sits on a carbon-fibre body weighing a paltry 999kgs, meaning rocket-powered performance in a go-kart shell. 0-62mph is sliced in just 2.5 seconds, which, as you've guessed, is the same as a friggin' Veyron. Top speed is 'over 186mph'.

But, says Lambo, "what the figures cannot convey is the Sesto Elemento's razor-sharp handling, voracious turn-in and huge braking power". An understanding of basic physics will tell you this is right. So, so Right.
I have been so bored of the german HP war for so long. Has anyone spent any time in Belfast? in areas you see sectarian flags on top of lamp posts, to then score points some gets a flag on a pole and mounts it on top of the lamp post. then again and again. It pointless and you kinda wonder why dont they just get down and pee on doorsteps. It always felt the same with the german HP thing, audi put a million BHP in an estate (pointless), BMW put in 2 million in a M5... yawn, merc put in a billion and the traction control cant handle it .... (morons). None of this constant wringing out of power improves the drive.
How ironic that lambo, the crowned emperor of pointlessness (in a very sexy way) have decided to go down the route carved out by chapman and Lotus seem to be heading off down an italian side road, a beautiful side road but neverthe less...

I saw that car in Paris, it's a work of art!

While Lambo are shedding weigh, in an interview from the show Bahar explained that the Elise will have more weight, more power...!!!

lol.
Re the lightweight thing, this is started to get a bit annoying, Chapman/Lotus did not invent gravity, physics, lightweight cars etc. The elan and the seven obviously were brilliant executions of a philosophy, but nothing to prevent anyone else from doing it, the later chapman cars were not particularly lightweight against cars of the era and there were lots of lightweight specials in the thirties. I agree with you 100% on th HP race.

I have to say I don't think the Lambo is a huge departure from today's models.... whereby the new Lotus lineup.... OMG.... there's not a munter in there (apart form the baby smart thingy)

If that ends up anywhere near 1000kg, I'll eat my hat.

Elises are about this these days with a 4-pot made of thin air, no roof and zero creature comforts (by comparison).

If they get that Lambo to 1200kg they're doing well.

Got to agree with your sentiments about the BHP wars but I'm not sure that the Lambo is any less pointless. 186 mph !! Where? 0 to 60 in 3 secs - again where? The beauty of an Elise is that you can enjoy yourself and exploit the potential on the roads at licence keeping speeds. But then I've always reckoned there was more fun in thrashing the nuts off a small low powered car than a big powered one.

We have our own version of the BHP race of course with all the Audi and Honda converted Elise

I would NOT like to be following that! Stone chip hell!

Did they save weight by not finishing the back of it?

The point of the concept is a new lower cost fabrication process for carbon fibre structures. It's not a styling exercise with technical details pulled out of the air...
