speedo not working

Hi my speedo reading 0mph when i drive i tried to reset the stack
- Turn off the ignition
- Open the driver's door (yes, really!)
- Press and hold the trip-meter reset button
- Whilst still holding the reset button turn the key in the ignition to the second position (just before the engine turns)

but cant get this to work any help would be great thank you

oops sorry 2002 lotus elise s2 it seems if i hit the speedo it works so iam going to take it off and look for lose wires

Does the rev counter work? It could be that you've shaken loose the connector in the wire that goes to the sensor, there is a connection point behind the rear left wheel which was disconnected in mine, easy to spot with wheel off, a bit of scrabbling around on the floor needed if not but worth checking before you take your dash to bits.

thanks for all the help, took the dash off and stack and found the connector to the stack was lose but is all working fine now thanks once again
