it's a some sort of selector plate on the bottom of my gearbox...I think it's the cause of my gearbox being very baulky - after I accidentally selected 1st and 3rd on a drive recently redface I didn't manage to break the gearbox (just graunched it) and ever since it's been hard to change gear, almost like driving without the clutch!

the garage reckon it's this plate in the photo which is the problem, as it regulates the cables connected to the gearstick itself, and is "out of whack" problem is, short of buying a new gearbox, the garage (and the local dealer) have no idea what constitutes "in whack" and as such the problem has remained un rectified for some 6 weeks now! so, I turn to the PH massive once again smile

help!

thank you biggrin

My mate's one of those needed the swivel point bolt dismantling and given a thorough cleaning in WD40
It's pretty simple - the cable unclips from it

That part is the 'crossgate bellcrank' The bushes that it pivots on often wear out and cause a baulky gear change. You can get new bush kits from ebay for not very much £, and it's not a difficult job to change them.

Where in the world are you mate, 5 minutes under the car fiddling with that lot can improve the shift quality no end.

having said all that, that's not the problem, cross-gate cable is side to side only, nothing to do with the actual feel of the selection of the gears, I suspect you have fubared the selector fork in the box.
