Hi all. Just sold my RS6 and now looking to get my first Elise. Opinions on the two below please. I have seen and driven the yellow Elise R and it was great but it was filthy and they say they don't prep until sold and so it's really hard to know how nice the yellow is once all polished up. The yellow one has a few stone chips at the front but apart from that looked pretty clean. I am going to try and see the white one next weekend.

Also I am planing on using it as a daily driver where possible and would like comments on if it's worth getting a hard top.

Cheers

Liam

I'm surprised that they didn't even give it just a quick wash, surely they want to sell the thing! Regarding the hard top, you won't find it any more water tight over the soft top (at least, I don't) but it is slightly quieter to cruise in and makes the car more secure from a security point of view, but then I love driving with the roof off and you can't chop and change so easily with hard top. If it's your only car (mine isn't) then then I'd think that you're best off getting a car with one, they're around £1000 if bought on their own.

As for the cars, go for which ever dealer offers the best deal unless you have a colour preference - both dealers AFAIK have good reps - but you could save a chunk buying private!

Yea I was supprised how dirty the car was. I will be garaging it everynight and so am not too bothered about security. I also think I will have the top off as much as possible and so not so sure about the hard top now. I do think they look quite nice with a hard top on.

Personally, I think the yellow one looks great in the photos. If it were my money, that would be the one I would get (based on nothing more than aesthetics though!)

I'm sure you will love whichever one you decide on smile

When mine was an everyday motor I bought a 2nd hand OEM hardtop (about £800 if I recall), I used it every winter from Oct until end of March and I would do it again. For me it was much quieter, dryer and just made it much 'cosier' - but now its a 2nd car it hasn't been on since.

Agreed. I bought an 08 Elise R with touring pack from Chris Neil's last year for £24k - and that had a £2k paint option (burnt orange - cloud9)

Would love a burnt orange as I think it looks great. Out of interest how many miles were on it when you got it and how many owners?

Go private and save the money. There are similar models avilable between 18K-20K The white ones my favourite but I'd take either.

Both stunning and as said probably a little over priced.

If the dealer cant be arsed to wash it then i wouldnt buy it. Its a buyers market and i would tell him to shove the car up his arrogant arse.mad (hard day at work contributed to this rant)

If i bought the white one the first thing to go would be the stripes,Aspen White doesnt need anything adding to it IMO. The first thing to be bought would be black wheels.

Im a rare breed in the Lotus owners world in that i prefer the hard top on, i very rarely take the soft top which is a criminal offence on here.shoot The car looks so much better as well IMO. The soft top is beneficial though when parking in tight places eg my garage as it can aid entry and exit.

£23,000 for a car they can't be bothered to wash and have photographed next to burnout marks on the road. Business must be good.

White one :-)

Prefer option 1 - looks great.

As for the hard top - its actually very good for the winter months - makes the car more cosy [if lined]

Used it about 3/4 months last year / nice to have but not essential !

Cheers for all the replies everyone.

Going to try and see the white one this weekend. Really want a 2007 onwards with low miles and there are only a couple 2nd hand and not too dissimilar in asking price to the dealer ones mentioned.

Yep, life is short and if you want and like the car, not overly bothered by the price - buy it. If you have a bit more time and look around, you probably will be able to save yourself quite a bit of money BUT it takes time, energy and could mean you are without your dream car for ages.

I'd still haggle like mad - most dealers will fight back and try to get you to accept stuff like floormats or driving lights than cash off, but that is still better than nothing.

As for private sellers, there are sensible ads but also some outrageously optimistic ones out there - you simply must make an offer and not confuse asking price for 'what I will accept or know is reasonable'.

I absolutely adore burnt orange. It's expensive paint and the armourfend is recommended, but how many cars can look this good when utterly filthy?

Now the polishers will admonish me for ruining a great car by not keeping it clean. But take this into account - it hadn't been washed nor polished for more than a month before the holiday to the south of France (the picture is at the Carlton on La Croisette, Cannes, obviously - you don't see Veyrons that often). Two days before we left for the Chunnel, I spent the afternoon at Brands on a trackday. No prep before the trip other than a quick checkover by Lipscomb's when they fitted the new tyres for me (weekend before the trackday).

OK, so the Brands trackday was chucking with rain and this 'cleaned' the car a bit. And the first stage of the France roadtrip was chucking down with serious rain too (all the way to just before Reims - thankfully the rain stopped just as the light was fading and I had finally found the old GP circuit....)

Poor light and poor photography, but that car was *filthy*... still looks gorgeous to my eyes.

When we finally reached Cannes... still no washes or polishes, and the hotel felt it appropriate to park it behind the Veyron.

Burnt Orange looks good - even when you don't wash it. And yes, I've got photos from when I first picked up the car and it looks out of this world... but when it looks this good without ANY polishing... and you've got the choice, drive or polish? What do you do?

Seriously - if you're a polisher - the burnt orange will blow you away. It's an awesome colour.

Yes, I've lost a front passenger side Lotus wheel centre badge... péage stress with Becky going mental 'get me closer! closer! CLOSER!' must be the cause. Where can I get just one? Lotus will sell me a full set I'm sure at big prices, but I've only lost one...
