anyone gone from TVR to elise?
Discussion
Lots of people have Judging by their comments you'll probably miss the power & practicality* but enjoy the handling/agility.
Definitely go for a test drive though. Its the other side of the British sports car coin (i.e. more handling than power vs more power than handling!). I think its a shame people can get so blinkered into brand loyalty that they don't own both in their lifetimes!
In fact if you can afford a new 111R/S2 Exige even the power is ok if a little frantic.
* depending on your Tiv's reliability record, as whilst a big boot is practical its not much use on the hard shoulder

Have you driven one Phil?
I tried a normal S2 and it left me feeling a little cold I have to say. Completely gutless after the Tiv, sublime handling but to get any sort of TVR like enjoyment you have to be 9/10ths or above at all times.
I have driven one but it was pre-TVR days and I remember being stunned by the handling and the performance seemed extremely quick. But that was when I owned an MGF
just cant think of many options if I were to replace the TVR. Unlike the thought of a cerb, the elise would cost me peanuts to run

Dont bet on it, C service can get costly. A mate of Bobski's C service was Cerb money...
Porsche?
Its not that much of a dark side...
but Porsche what? I dont really want to add finance on top of the cost of the chimaera. So its 968 money. And then its a hardtop which I am not sure I want, coupled with the fact the 968 is a bit too much of a mix of 944/928 to look that modern IMHO. Fantastic car, and I respect them hugely after being passenger in one on the A32, but not sure I think of them as special.
A couple of years ago I had a griff 500 and an elise 111s for about 6 months (ie at the same time). i generally used the griff a lot more even though I loved the elise.
Mainly because...The elise was a pain to get in&out of, less luxurious, roof a pain to take off, not as quick as the griff.
On the plus side, it was always great fun, made you feel like you were going quickly even when u werent, much better on fuel.
Hope that helped.

I went from a Griff 500 to Honda S2000 to Elise S2 Sport tourer and I know its an Elise forum so dont want slated but it just aint the car for me. Ive had it 6 months and I want to change it already. Probably for a TVR.
Sure its cheap on fuel but I like the biggish power and am glad Ive tried "both sides" of the british sports car manufacturing but as has been said already its horses for courses.
Shnozz, fancy a p/x?

Let me know if you want a blast in mine. I think you'll miss the grunt - not sure what Chimera handling is like perhaps a comparative blast down the 272??
You'll certainly miss the torque, the neat roof design, and the practicality of the HUUUUUGE Chimaera boot. But you'll love the feedback and sheer delicacy of the Elise. But like others have said - make sure you go for more power than 120! If you like power oversteer, then a LOT more power - the standard car takes a lot to get out of shape in the dry (great in the wet though). Elise is far better suited to doing track days too.
Went from Chimaera 500 to Cerbera which I modified loads before giving up and getting a proper track car instead. My girlfriend bought an Elise, and I persuaded her to let me put a 200bhp Honda engine in it - it's bloody fast now, and I can't imagine any road TVR keeping up around a track!

i'm currently in this kind of debate at the moment elise / TVR ......i've got around 15K + to spend
the people with the TVR's, do you consider them viable for track days, i.e handling, tyre wear etc
cheers
TVR + Track = Big expense.
They seem overly heavy on tyres and brakes if you like a bit of arse out action
davislove said:No! Weight is the killer, and the Chimaera/Griff in particular has woeful brakes. And they eat tyres.

Maybe I'm slightly biased, but trackdays will cost you a lot less and will be more fun in an Elise. As standard cars, they're in a different league for track suitability.
