Evening gents,

just a quick one. Need to get my steering column trim off my car, but cannot find any allon key to undo the little screws. None in my lotus tool kit. Are these something I can pick up in halfords?

Thanks

Mike

What car and what year? Mine (an '03 S2) were a mixture of standard phillips head screws, which need a screwdriver, for the underside of the steering column and the ones at 10 and 2 oclock above the steering column, then there are two which go in towards the front of the car above and outside of them which are smallish 'Torx' head ones, these are a female fitting like and allen key head, but they are not allen heads, the drivers for them have a 'star shaped' end. You should be able to get a set of drivers from any DIY place or Halfords.

Loudman,

Mine is a very similar car to yours, (53 plate 111S). The screws on the underbelly and side are normal philips and then there are 2 which are star shaped. I'll see if Halfords have anything tomorrow. Need to get something as I am sending off the parts for a re-trim this week!!!

Cheers

The top 2 are torx screws. I have an old PC toolkit and one of them fits. Once however I used a small flat screwdriver which fitted in the star bit and got it undone.

I've used allen keys to undo some Torx screws before but wouldn't recommend it, at best you'll scuff the heads up and they'll look rubbish, get some torx drivers and you'll be sorted.
