I've got my first trackday in the new Exige tomorrow, errrr… today in 5 hours time?

I've only just got back from work frown Missed my last train, couldn't get out of the office in time, cab took ages. Off to bed right now.

But importantly - my CG Locks turned up just in time! Ordered on Sunday night and they arrived OK. So I won't be falling out of the chair at Graham Hill.

Incidentally, on the CG Lock website, the overwhelming majority of 'sports car' happy customers seem to be Lotus Elise drivers. Does this device work particularly well with the Lotus?

I'll have my usual web access at the track when I'm trying to fit the things before I first go out. Obviously I've got the instructions and it doesn't look rocket science. But are there any gotchas? Any tips on easy fitment? Anything I *really* need to do, or tools that make fitment much easier than the supplied allen keys? I've bought two, don't want to turn up at the track and find I can't fit the damn things.

Until I can work out a genius wheeze to allow BOTH the OEM inertia reel seat belts AND proper harnesses, the CG Locks will have to do. Yeah, I've paid for a harness bar and sports seats, because I really wanted a harness for trackdays, but nobody thought to tell me that I'd have to forego the inertia reel seat belts to have the harnesses rolleyes And in an Exige S with no rear visibility, not being able to rotate shoulders for a biker-style 'lifesaver' look is just dangerous. So I haven't bought the harnesses yet.

The CG Locks are good, I take it???

CG locks are "OK", they are decent enough for what they are but not a patch on harnesses. Assuming 'sports seats' are buckets I can't see them making a big difference.

With regard to the harness/inertia reel question - what is the issue that means you have to choose one or the other?

I have both in my Elise - shoulder straps to bar; waist straps and inertia reel both anchored to the seat in a double shear arrangement; crotch straps to a sys.6.pack anchor point under the seat.

I used to use them on my 205, but then one trackday I forgot them and didn't notice. Next time out an Elise driver offered me £10 more than I paid for them, so off they went!

Have a good day at Brands. Can't understand why you've been told you can't have harnesses and inertia belts? What is the problem?

I'm surprised more people here didn't know about the issue with space on the driver's seat attachment for two brackets - I asked on SELOC and got jumped on as usual. My dealer's head tech also said that it's a tight squeeze (if you can at all) getting both the bracket for the seat-belt buckle *and* the harness bracket onto the driver's side rod - there's plenty of length on the passenger side but not on the driver's side. The chap who bought my old VX220 wheels off me showed me the problem - I can see a workaround (extend the seat-belt buckle length, as per an old Mini with the buckle box on a thick cable) but this is safety equipment and I'm not taking risks.

In light of insurance problems, and always having bogie's experience in the back of my mind, I was waiting for some approved (insurance and MOT / type approval) kit. Either an extension as per my mad idea, or a longer rod with washers and springs.

Is the above kit fully approved? Obviously if it works, then (as per bogie) I'm more likely to survive a big stack with the harnesses on… but is the kit acceptable to insurance companies? My main worry is that in a smash, I walk away due to the harnesses saving my life, and then the insurers spotting the harness *and* seatbelt and then declaiming all insurance, leaving me with unaffordable third party claims.

If it's OK then for £26 it's just what I've been waiting for! That's £100 on CG Locks wasted… (well not wasted, I'll give them to my petrolhead brother who is just getting into performance driving, his little 106 could do with better seat location).

Cheeers!

I've got the MSAR kit on mine, can't see any issues but I'm no expert. With regard to insurance can't see how it could affect it unless you were making a personal injury claim for injuries sustained due to it's failure.

I had one in my old clio for a bit. Not very impressed after all the hype. 4-point harnesses in my Elise do a proper job, couldn't be without them now.

CF I've fitted two of those kits, one to my car and another to a friends Elise SC.The main issue seems to be if you have a leather centre console(which we both have)which makes it a very tight fit with the drivers seat seat right back.
Im more than happy to come over to you(Sevenoaks iirc?)and give you a hand to fit them or show you mine.
As for the kit it comes from Sector 111,an American company and is sold by a reputable comapny in the UK.That should tell you enough about the product(given the trigger happy lawyers over there).
As for insurance,i really don't understand what you mean. How could a payout be avoided due to fitting harnesses???
Its almost as ridiculous as a certain dealer in Kent telling people their warranty is voided by fitting a 2bular backbox.... laugh
