I need to know as I am getting them changed but need to bring old ones away with me and having logistical problems with getting another car to come with me to collect the tyres.

yes you can buts a real squash. I managed with the roof off and a bungee looped round the passenger wing mirror to stop the 'top' tyre falling on me.
I also have harnesses and used those to help hold them in place.

Yes, although when I did it they ended up in a position that meant I couldn't use first or second gear.

I have never managed it succesfully. You will find that you can't get 1st and 2nd and that is a real PITA.

Do two journeys. Depending on how far it is of course!

As everyone else says, getting 1st and 2nd is a pain in the backside, but it's ok for short journeys.
