driving along lastnight and lost control around a bend. Hit a parked truck...backwards.

I have a few bruises and went to hospital. Im totally fine, but the car is a write-off. There is no back end whatsoever and the wheels are all twisted.

gutted.

ill not get insured for a while, so no more driving for me.

Not a happy drag. Lying down because sitting here hurts.

bad luck

from some of your other posts on here it sounds like its only been a matter of time before this happened to you to be honest, but I am genuinely glad you are largely ok.

Insurance could well be a problem, so in the meantime if you get access to a car think about doing the IAM course - it will make you a safer driver and far less likely to be in a situation where you can make mistakes fullstop.

I'm not having a dig and I know this probably sounds a bit harsh right now, but I hope you take it constructively and in the manner it is intended. At least it was only a truck you hit.

Very sorry to hear that Dragster and im very happy to hear you re alright. I have never met you but from your posts and antics alone i feel i know you very well. Absolute bummer as the elise is a great car and your pictures are excellant. Sad thats all you have now. I wish you well and dont listen to Zebedee, at least not at the moment. Not what you want to hear when you have crashed your baby.

Damn, I'm really sorry to hear that Sunny. Glad you're OK.
If you had protected no-claims then your insurance will be fine (I speak from experience) but I guess you haven't had your insurance long enough to build up a big no claims discount.

Keep smiling mate.

A PHer motoring enthusiast has just lost his car together with any chance of insuring anything decent for the next few years and this is what you come up with? I suggest you keep opinions like this to yourself.

Good to hear! At least some good news.

Wat for the insurance assesment on that.

From the back is pretty much the 'best' place (if there is any) to hit an Elise as you have the least risk of real chassis damage.

The back end up to the engine is prety much 'bolted on' to the back of the chassis itself.

It may still cost a bundle to repair, but not having a bent chassis helps a lot to keep the cost within reason.

It will probably be close if it's a complete write-off or not..

Bye, Arno.

Its a bad day indeed but I'm sure I've read some of drag's posts where he seems a bit carried away with the performance of his vehicle and may not always have exhibited much caution in his driving.

Putting two and two together I just thought that kind of attitude breeds complacency, which in a car that can easily catch you out, like the Elise,is very dangerous.

Admittedly, I don't know what caused his accident but losing the back end midway round a bend sounds like overexuberance - I am the first to admit I could be wrong.

As I said, all sympathies to Drag and glad he is ok. Lets all just take care out there.

Drag,

I'm devastated

Glad to here you're OK.

Listen to Arno, you might get lucky!

I'm sure I speak for many (posters and lurkers alike) and hope you don't feel the need to abandon us, we enjoy your contributions to the forum. Keep posting.

Regards, Neil

Perhaps it's not the right moment but have you considered an S2, less tendency to oversteer (couldn't resist that)

Fcuk! Bad luck indeed matey. Been there with my last car (Audi A3) which at the time was almost a financial stretch for me to drive. Insurance paid out nicely which enabled me to get the Elise so it may not be so bad as you think. It's not easy to think right now but at the end of the day it's just plastic and metal, it could have been MUCH worse.

Fancy selling me your steering wheel? And maybe manifold. And mabe your throttle body?

Bad luck there matey

Just wait and see what your insurers say, I don't think it'll make much difference if it's written off or not, it's the fact you've lost last year's NCB and won't gain any this year either and a fault accident against you

How much NCB did you have?

Yes, you may be suprised re: insurance. My other half crashed my first Elise 3 years ago. (I got the phone call at work!) I had full protected NCB. My premium went up, but it remained a 3 figure sum.

Don't despair. But for the grace of God go most of us, I'm sure we'll all agree. Sort out the claim, try and put a few quid away. If you know what happened, then some skid training, and some advanced training such as RoSPA or IAM will be a shrewd move.

Have a careful think about what car you might like, and do a lot of insurance homework. An older classic, with the appropriate insurance may be the way to keep the Dragstar on the road!

Chin up!
