Why did you buy a soft top??

I only put the hard top on my car once, noticed that it made approximately bugger all difference to anything, and haven't touched it since. It is rather warmer here than in Edinburgh though.

nono

You buy a softtop and the roof should be off at all times that it is not raining!

Even in snow.

My hard top will be staying off for as long as the GF will allow hehe Had it on between mid Jan to around mid March this year, by which time I *told* her it was coming off! With a beanie, gloves and a few layers on I actually prefer driving with the roof off when it's cold rather than in the middle of a heat wave!

Ah guys don’t get me wrong it’s not the temp that gets me it’s the rain.

I have a selection of mad hats and gloves I was using this year driving my Elise in the snow early Jan - Feb. But the rain was so hard yesterday even new seals and adjust windows didn’t stop a trickle of rain getting in so I was thinking since I haven’t had the top on for a while I might get it out and pop it on after my car gets cleaned this weekend…… (Yes I even wash / detail my car… runs away from the Elise purists with flaming torches)

Thats me in minority of one.

My hard top will go on,as it did with the other Elises ive owned, and the soft top will gather dust in the garage. The only good thing i find with the soft top is its easier to get out of the car in the garage.

When mine was an every day car the hardtop went on at end of Oct and came off in April, much more snug and effectively a coupe during winter - quieter, totally waterproof and much more homely feeling. Now its a second car so I didn't put it on this winter, in fact I don't think tha the softtop ever went on it last winter as it lives with the top-off in garage when not in use.

hard tops make it feel like the car is more rigid as well.

Really? I've never noticed a difference.

I could certainly feel it when swapping out of mine and into one without a hardtop on, felt like there was less flex.

I must say I like my car more in the deths of winter with the hard top on than the soft top. Basically from November to March when I'm driving the car its usually dark, cold and wet. A proper roof makes sense in those conditions.

I think most of the soft top only crew don't actually use their Lotus as a daily all year round commuter?

I chop and change between my 2 cars as and when the mood takes me, and use my Lotus to and from work (approx 20min one way) as well as to the shops and other mundane stuff. I'll have the top off whenever I think I won't get wet, regardless of my purpose of journey or how cold it is. My other car has air-con (the Lotus doesn't) and I was actually using that more in the height of summer than I was the Elise, I've got sunburn so many times sitting in traffic jams and driving around in the blazing sun in the high 20's. Friends and workmates can't quite understand why I drive the 'soft-top' anytime in the winter but don't drive it when it's scorching! biglaugh

LOL.. well my hard top is coming off at the end of the week. Lovely sunny day today and apparently we've got a week of it so maybe time to get the roof in its bag again
