I have been reccomended these as a replacement for my Advan LTS's. Does anyone have any feedback on them?

Edited to say after a bit of research, I think these are the latest Advans. But do they not do a specific LTS tyre anymore as I understand those are only available from Lotus dealers, which this garage isn't. So should I refuse on the basis that they need to be LTS's?

Further edited to say Yokohama have confirmed that the AD08 does not come in LTS form. So is the AD08 suitable for the S1 Elise or not? I have previously had tyres with far too stiff sidewalls for the weight of the car and they made the car downright horrible.

I think general concensus for the moment is to stay with the LTS specific tyres, as the AD08's have not got a specifc sidewall change for lotus.

keep to the LTS ones IMO. The AD08's tho are suposed to have a A048 type compound which is better apparently .......maybe lotus will get round to ordering some LTS spec ones from Yoko...

cheers, what is the going rate for 07 LTS's then, I assume you can still only get them from Lotus dealers?

Sorry my reading is crap - For the S1 think these are the only LTS ones recommended by Yoka http://www.eliseparts.com/products/show/78/481/yok...

so how come Eliseparts can sell them if other tyre places can't get hold of them?

They have a deal with Lotus to supply the LTS versions, not sure how they did that but they did! smile

Also, how come lots of people use other tyre brands (eg Bridgestone) which aren't Lotus specific and get away with it?

Eliseparts are selling a pair of rears at just shy of £300, and that doesn't even appear to be fitted. Ouch.

Yokohama have come back to me today and confirmed that the AD08s are indeed a suitable tyre for the Elise S1. I guess the question is, what is 'suitable' - is it 'they will be great', or is it 'they will fit'. Hmmmm. £180 versus £300+ for a pair of rears is a considerable difference, but no point saving £120 if the handling is ruined.

I am not sure exactly what the Lotus advise Yoko do with the tyre but I guess is something to do with the tyrewall to make it "LTS". Personally I would say they mean they have the size, would be good to find out, but as you noted before the wrong tyre can make a big difference on these cars. I would fork out the money for the LTS tyres.

Would love to get the indside track into what makes an LTS advan tyre -i.e. what spec is different.

Well here is what Yokohama said to me:

"It is very difficult to compare the 2 as the LTS AD07 was specifically designed for your car and both Lotus and Yokohama developed the tyre purely for this purpose. This is why the LTS' can only be bought through Lotus.

The AD08 is an excellent road tyre but it is a multi-purpose tyre which can be fitted to anything from the lightweight Lotus to heavier saloon cars such as Evo's so it will feel slightly different to your AD07's. The A048R is a tyre they use in the Lotus on Track race series which we sponsor and they also give excellent performance."

in my thread asking about the 08 was advised to get the 07's, spoke to dealer and very happy with a price of £320 for set of rears fitted.
