Hi all,

just an excercise in confidence I think more then anything else........ my elise has developed a kind of quiet ticking sound in conjunction with its normal growl, which seems to be louder at higher revs..... the frequency ticking increases/decreases with engine speed.

Is this just one of those "engine getting on a bit" things or more sinister - I'm only paranoid, cos a peugeout that I once had went kaboom after ticking.

as always
Tom

Hmm, could be a noisy tappet, mine has always had that problem. If it's bothering you it's probably best to get an expert ear to have a quick listen.

Its normally the fuel pressure regulator valve that ticks...more so on a cold day. does it sound like its coming from over your left shoulder? if so probly that and dont worry its normal.
But if your worried get it checked out

But the charcoal cannister ticking doesn't change with engine speed.

There is no fuel pressure regulator valve that ticks on an elise . . . or makes any noise for that matter . . . come to think of it the fuel pressure regulator isn't really a valve either . . . so it's not a valve and doesn't tick . . .

Fear not. The ticking sound that you hear on cold mornings is the charcoal cannister.
