Just thinking really, about changing my Caterham thingy for something else, and am torn between a few options, such as a VX220 Turbo or and Elise, then heard about the Honda Elise conversion and wondered what are they really like? I know you can tune the VX220T to 300bhp easily (ish) but wondered how a Honda Elise would compare?

Car would mostly be used for weekend fun and track days...

Why were all those other cars on a track looking for parking? 8-)

They're brilliant, I have one as do 2 friends and simply fantastic. Every day driving is great and tame if you want it to be with it pulling very well from the lower revs, put it on track though and you're blown away by the performance.

PS - Simon, you had chance to look at the email that Simon from BK sent you and I?

at a guess about 300-320bhp ...chargecooled and cams can get 350bhp plus out of them ...there was another recent thread with all the dyno plots on them and price options

for the OP

try www.hondaelise.com for more info, or search on here...days worth of reading going back over 8 years on Honda Elises

I used to love mine...and will have another some day im sure smile

DING to all that. A well-sorted NA one will show a clean pair of heels to a lot of very expensive stuff on road and track. Slap the FI stuff on and you'll do everything bar the fastest Caterfields and Radicals (when they're not broken down). Then you can pootle back home with little drama and laugh at how bloody economical they are on a motorway cruise.

The Honda Elise makes sense to me. Wether it's a light weight S1, or a lardier S2, the engine just suits it perfectly. Although mine was setup for the track, I have now softened it a touch, and i'm left with a car that is as happy on the motorway commute as it is on the occasional trackday.

The difference is that it's a step up from a regular elise and a bit more "special", unfortunatly you need a good driver to complete the package. I doubt I'd be much quicker than a standard Elise round a track frown

Timing's banned on track days anyway, so don't worry about your lap times, just enjoy your car smile

Think you will find the Honda elise a lot more practical
& just as quick if not quicker than most caterham's. Also very similar driver involvmemt.

Note, that is an s/c car in the video, not the std Honda conversion with normally aspirated engine. IIRc the std engine has c220bhp and the s/c one 300-320bhp.

Yea, there's too many Porche's being left for dust for that car to be the n/a engine. Still... the n/a conversion is a good step to that performance. Given that brake and suspension upgrades are essential prior to supercharging, when the bank account has recovered, the s/c upgrade will soon follow!

I think I know that wink ... I'm talking about me following/being followed by a standard Elise.

So, is it fair to say that the n/a honda is still quite swift?
