Implications for Elise ownership?
Discussion
Hi all,
I just read that the 1.8 Elises will fall foul of the new Euro crap emissions regulations. Presumably, this means that the 1.8 elise and exiges won't be produced anymore?
I have been saving for an Elise SC for ages and now that I finally have the money, I am concerned that this will have implications for owners. I guess service, spares, road tax will all become factors. Am I right or wrong? What's the general opinion here?
Thanks and best wishes,
Luke

nothing to worry about, they dont bring in regulations retrospectively, its only for cars built after a certain date, so new models get updated engines and carry on as normal, as do old ones
I always found it funny, we had a pre March 06 Sagaris and I have a Jan 06 Vantage - pay the same tax as a new Elise on them ...parts/engine supply on TVRs now is better than it was when the company was in existence LOL
just buy the car you want now, drive it and enjoy it stop worrying too much

TBH the most difficult stuff to get seems to be wheels and tyres...ask owners of the original Elises. That is if you want it 100% as it left the factory. IIRC there is a manufacturers agreement to support cars for 10years after end of production. Lotus and similar desirables are well supporrted by independents...you can still rebuild a 60's Lotus with most parts available (until recently from the factory)..and that is for cars that were build in much smaller numbers than the Elise. ..however if you buy an Europa, you're on your own.... lol

Road tax and fuel costs will definitely become issues. Wouldnt worry about spares for a few years, but in maybe 5 years time I will be buying a 2ZZ engine from a write off for spares .Thanks and best wishes,
Luke
