Hi Every-peeps!

I just wanted to post first time as a test and as a chance to say hello.

Im a 45 year old bloke looking to buy myself an Elise.

Found this site on the web and am at present enjoying reading the various topics to enlighten myself before taking the plunge. I have at the moment a Sylva Stryker kit with a tuned Lancia Twin-Cam in it but want to carry on enjoying my motoring but have been asked by the wife to get something a little more practical.

The Elise seems to be the perfect car for my needs.

I think due to costs etc I will be going for a well looked after Series One. will 10K buy me a reasonable car? if so I could keep the Kit for a while.... otherwise the old girl will have to go!!

thats the kitcar.. not the wife ;0)

lets hope I dont ask too many dumb questions :0)

Think 10k may be a little low to be honest. If you can find 12k you'll have a nicer set of cars to choose from.

Very warm welcome Beep-Beep! There are loads of threads for this subject, so I won't rattle on. £10K? You can certainly buy one for that. It'd be an early car. Try and spend nearer £12 - should get you a 99 car. Sell the missus and keep both cars!

10k will only get you a very early car or one that has been in a prang.

Welcome

Hi again-im a newbie to elise land got mine xmas eve 03! and i love it so far. like the other guys said 10k wont get you much 12k up is safer ground! i saw an elise 98 13k looked nice on blue until i got up close what a dog! owned by a 22 year old...say no more.

I was put off the elise thing by that as i expected people with a lotus to love and look after the cars!!

Very next day i went to see my car, the guy was enthusiastic made some upgrades, very honest guy who waited a while for me to decide. He was exactly the kind of person i wanted to buy from, he took me along when the mot was done and i had the car checked out by williams in bristol and the hpi of course!.

So i would say dont rush, dont be put off when you see dogs!! i got a nice example for less money than the dog one i saw first!!.

Godd luck anyway!

He wants one really....

Seriously, I just got one mate and it's fanny-tastic. It's a great time to buy as there are loads around. Spend a bit more than 10k though, comments above reflect the fact (as with most things) that you gets what you pays for!

Pretty much anything you can think of in terms of questions about the car, running costs, servicing, known problems, niggles, insurance etc is around somewhere on these message boards... use Search and have a dig around. It helped me enormously when I began my love-affair and is like a free bible!

Basically drive a few and you'll never look back... I see you're from Kent (as am I) Where abouts are you? I'd be happy to take you for a run in mine one weekend if you like

oh and welcome to the nut-house mate!

hi beep-beep,

I'm in a similar situation, although if we do take the plunge, will buy new. You will find the folks on Pistonheads very helpful, and always happy to help out. It isi a madhouse though!!!

Hello, my name is skinner. I have been a PHer for 15 months. I started to notice I had a problem when more time was spent laughing at work then working. It all came to a head when my girlfriend caught me, alone, sitting in a darkened room, giggling.

In all seriousness, welcome. Great site, good people with lots of useful info. From what I have seen I would try to up your kitty (and I don't mean the cat Drag) and go for a later car.

Hope it doesn't take over your life!!

Hi Paul!

I own a Sylva as well as an Elise, too (mines a Pheonix/Clubmans with a semi-race Crossflow) - must be something in the two cars that appeals to the same sort of nutter!

I would agree with other comments that £10K is a bit on the low side. My budget was up to about £15k and I saw an awful lot of shabby looking examples in my search.

I was originally looking for a 111S, but every one on sale when I was looking appeared to have been either thrashed or neglected.

Look at plenty, though, and you will eventually come up trumps - I finally managed to find an absolutely mint, low mileage (only 8K miles) early S1 for £12K. I've since done 4 thousand miles with not a hint of a problem (touch wood!), and find it more enjoyable and practical than the Sylva for road use, even if it isn't anything like as quick!

ok peeps, little teaser for you, could well me go in the classifieds soon (not mine)... keep 'em peeled

What do you think a 99 T 111S 2 owners, FLSH , 60k odd miles in excellent order throughout is worth?
