Motor is in for it's MOT today, they've just called to say that there is an engine management light on and it has failed the emissions. I've never had the engine light on myself and it wasn't on when I drove it in this morning although that was the first drive for a few weeks. Any ideas?

It's an '03 111S

Impossible to say what a problem could be without knowing emission figures.

Hmmm, fixed now but I'm a little suspicious. I actually trust the garage but its a bit of a strange one. The car drove in fine this morning, no warning light. They say that the warning light popped on as soon as they started it and it failed the emissions and was misfiring. I asked them to investigate and fix, which they have done and got the MOT sorted. The strange thing is that they say they connected up the diagnostics and it was not reporting a fault code, so they checked the lambda sensor and it was not registering at all. They have replaced the lambda sensor (cost of £60 + labour) and apparently it then sailed through everything.........

I'm slightly puzzled as to why the sensor should have failed but its fixed now and the sun is shining
