I have test driven an Elise 111R and was very impressed. Can anyone tell me what the likelyhood would be of getting a discount?

I am hoping to order within the next month and the chances are that I will go for an Elise instead of a TVR, although a 11R with a touring pack and metallic paint is not an awful lot cheaper than a Tamora.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Such a new car in this section of the market? I'd be surprised if you managed to wangle a tank of petrol out of your dealer...

Discount is going to be unlikely or very small token gesture, as for every 111R Lotus are making us take 2 'regular' Elise's, but everyone whats the 'R' so I'll leave you to work that one out!

Needless to say with the recent price realignments and the implications of the above dont overlook the 111S as a new one of those could be financially very tempting

So there is more chance of getting a discount on the slightly slower one. hmmmmm

a little while ago there were finance details on the lotus website couldn't see them earlier does anyone have details and is it possible to get the extra sound proofing from the R is the S. coming from hatch I am aware this will all be a bit new and different for a lotus newbie.

I have been offered £1,000 off the 111S and with it £5,000 cheaper to start with (compared to the 111R with touring pack)that adds up to £6,000 saving. Spend £1,500 on the ITG/Janspeed induction, sports exhaust/cat and manifold and that gives you 170 BHP or circa 212 bhp/ton.

The 111R is 50kg heavier and develops 220 bhp/ton from its 189 bhp.

So save £4,500 and get a pretty close performance levels. I reckon only at 120 mph plus will the 111R be much quicker.

And you could get a 111S secondhand and save even more.....

I've been offered a brand new 111S for £25500 which I thought was a pretty reasonable deal???

I'd pay another 2k and get the R with 190bhp to be honest. You'll probably save the extra in residuals imho and its just a better faster car.

I know what you're saying but.......2k is a lot more money to find when I'm already right at my limit....and 2k will only get me the bog standard 111R, which sounds great at the moment, but in a year or two when the second hand market will be a lot busier, a basic one may not sell too easily.

Why buy new at all then? If moneys tight its pretty dumb taking the huge hit you get on a brand new car. I got my car 1 year old, and that was only because I wanted an S2 and couldn't get a 2 year old one as that was S1 days. In the end its your money, but I wouldn't go new unless it can't be avoided.

If you want a 111S second hand though, you might want to wait a little while whilst 111 owners come to terms with the price realignement of their cars. Seen 111S going for 21k or so though, and thats still a good saving.

Ah well whatever floats your boat to be honest I know its nice getting something shiney and new!

exactly, never had a new car before, plus there's the hard top...and no MOT for 3 years...warranty etc. I guess there's pro's and con's whatever the decision.

Yep the no MOT thing is nice. My car was pretty much as new as previous owner was very anal about the car (in a good way!). Does mean you get worried about the slightest bit of dirt collecting on upholestry etc and get scared of tracking it. Actually happier my car is a bit older now as it means I don't feel so precious

Mine needs its first MOT in a few months...

Just had a very interesting letter from my Lotus Dealer, Westover in Bournemouth. They are offering the 111S, with hardtop, leccy windows, central locking, for £25995. They go to talk of a purchase allowance of £750, if you PX your current car. So, I'm in little doubt that a cash buyer could buy a new 111S for £25K easily.
