Elise 111R engine management light intermittent

I took my car out of garage and parked in front , on a slope and in the shade under a tree for a few hours. Then started up and onto the dual carriageway round a tightish right hander at speed where there was suddenly half throttle at best - 70 mph max and the engine management light was on continuously.
stopped at the club, stayed and hour or two. started up and went to Tesco to fill up - same problem.
started up at Tesco to come home and the problem was gone. No light showing and full throttle available.
No misfiring, engine idled happily, I thought it sounded a bit more throaty but my wife didnt. Could possibly hear a light rattle from inside the exhaust. Other than these possible symptoms, no other indication at all and I'm a passably competent home mechanic.
So where do I look first of all? "
