The speedo/revs guage on my 2002 111S seems to be playing silly beggars. Firstly, the rev counter says the car is idling at around 1050 rpm, yet I'm pretty sure the car is idling as it should be. Secondly, the speedo tells me I'm doing 9mph, stood still! This "overreading" continues throughout the speed range, and is most irritating.

Can any of you also tell me, will this affect the odometer? Am I right in thinking that this will work via some sort of mechanical means, i.e. by wheels turning?

Has anyone else had this problem? My second Elise, a S2 Racetech had to have a new set of STACK instruments, just before I picked it up. The salesman told me they had mysteriously failed.

Does it still re callibrate itself on P1 ignition switch?

Looked in the manual and can't see any instructions on how to set it.

If this is the case I would suspect a board fault - but I'm sure there are more people on here with experince of the same problem.

I have a bad main negative/earth connection which messed with the digital readouts and dash lights, and the rpm gauge sometime dropped off. Never messed with my speado though.
Was an easy fix with a bit of emery paper. Might be worth a bash

I had the self same thing with my S2 when I bought it, Speedo read 10mph at rest and rev counter started at 600rpm. Dead easy to reset, open drivers door stick key in ignition, press trip button on steering cowl and then turn on the ignition, while keeping that trip button pressed. The lcd will flash and tell you all sorts of software version bits The needles will do a little dance and then it's all over and your dials will tell you the truth!

Hope it helps,

Thanks Bogoff!
I've just this minute phoned Westover Sportscars. They told me exactly what you've said and it worked!
Problem solved!

thats great info - thanks - I've just been watching my dials with interest - sometimes I get to around 40mph before anything wakes up, then othertimes the needles just randomly jump all over the place and last week I was doing an indicated 130mph everywhere. Which was pretty damn impressive during ruch-hour in Hertford!

will try this on mine and see what happens

Sounds like you need to be careful there - If the ECU is logging that you're driving at 130 everywhere then I wouldn't put it past Lotus to invalidate your engine warranty should anything go wrong!
