Well I've had mine 2 days and suffice to say that I know that it's more than capable of going faster than I'll ever need to on the UK's roads.
What I can tell you, is that the essence for me of the S1 driving experience, is the sheer thrill of driving such a complete driving machine - it tells you so much about the road, sounds so sublime, accellerates so eagerly and smoothly that it makes you laugh out loud. There's simply no need to rag the arse off it, you just sit back, work your way through the gears and enjoy the ride!

It varies depending on the model, gearbox and modifications but the Lotus figures are:
S1: 126mph
S1 111S: 133mph
S2: 125mph
S2 111S: 132mph
S2 111R: 150mph
Now please let's not have a pissing competition about who's driven theirs the fastest.
Odd thing is, I've regularly seen an indicated 130mph on my almost bog standard S1 on level roads (private level roads, obviously, officer), with a little bit in hand. Unless you have accurate timing gear, your Elise is as fast as the speedo tells you it is, which at the top end of the range is likely to be anything up to 10% up on reality...
Whatever, it's considerably slower than the clapped out Vauxhall Carlton I sold for £500 a bit back, and embarassingly slower than any number of Bimmers these days, but then that's not the point, is it?

120mph+ and ive done it
Is that all?
Ah but you see.
I'd rather walk down the street at 5 miles per hour with a pair of nikes on, rather than 10 miles per hour with a pair of "rockports" or tesco's bags tied around my feet
Its all about quality, baby. quality

Using my GPS gear I find that the speedo is 10% out at above 60, therefore your indicated 130 is only 117 in reality....
Yep...that seems about right - certainly the car hits an indicated 125-127 mph extraordinarily easily for something that's supposed to be flat out at those speeds!
In my experience, speedos on production cars are always calibrated very optomistically, presumably to minimise the product liability risks associated with speedos which underread (ie. accidents/speeding fines incurred by people who were travelling faster than they thought they were).
