Hi guys
Can anyone help with the annoying rattle that i get at about 2000 rpm? Ive read forum posts saying this is normal, but its getting worse and its REALLY anoying.
Sounds like its coming from the injection plenum or there abouts.

Cheers

Don't worry, Dragstar, you haven't got one on your Elise.

lol...I thought you were taking the piss again (as usual), Dragstar!

The plenum is the air chamber that the single throttle body feeds into on 'normal' Elises. Each cylinder then takes its 'share' of air from the plenum, via the inlet manifold. You have individual throttle bodies on your car, don't you? - in which case each individual throttle runner feeds straight into a cylinder of its own - much more efficient!

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the 'normal' 2000rpm rattle on the Elise is usually caused by the exhaust vibrating against the undertray as it goes through a period of resonance, isn't it?

There is an 'anti-tizz' bracket that can be fitted to the exhaust to brace it against this resonance, if that's what your problem is. Costs next to nothing (a few quid), so might be worth a try, anyway. Might be worth checking that the undertray is not working loose, too, while you're at it. The noise is 'throwing its voice' if it sounds like it's coming from the plenum area, tho, if either of these are the problem.

after trawling throu that lot i will check my exaust, had a new manifold fitted a couple o weeks ago so could be that.
I think the plenum is the plasticy bit on top of the inlet manifold that acts as a sort of air box for the cylinders. the noise sounds like it comeing from in there as it sounds kinda platicy and hollow (technical huh!) At the risk of spawning another string of spam from dragstar any1 know if there is anything in there that could come loose?

Oi! you cant beat a good bit of "spamming"

put it this way...

Drag's posts are like a box of chocolates. you never know which one....

is the ba5tard orange/cream one.

Then when you bite into it, and spit it out, your mum says "you better pick that up and eat it all". Then you down half a pint to get the taste out of your mouth, along with more beer to follow.

Next thing you know, your trying to act sober at a family do, but your a ticking time bomb.

when you go off, boy do you go off!

Next thing you know, your pissing on your neighbours cat...or trying too. round and round you go.

The next day. your cousin plays a tape of you chasing a cat around your garden, except the cat has long gone so your chasing nothing.

and everybody lives happily ever after (except my neighbours dont like me now )
