Try searching google for "show plates", they aren't road legal so the usual plate manufacturers don't sell them.

Mine fell off on a speed hump last year and I never got round to replacing it - just keep it in the car. Have passed the BiB a few times and never been pulled over - if I do then I'll just say that it's only just fallen off - and produce the evidence.
I have a heard of quite a few others running without a front numberplate that have never been pulled either....

I couldn't find anything on the Internet so just cut down a full size one, there's quite a bit of blank space on them, depending on the registration itself.

Anyone clarify it's a straight £30 fine for no plate but £30 + 3 points for a wrong size or spaced plate?

I have an assortment of broken number plates in the car. With the lowered ohlins, the plate comes off all the time.

They are kept in the car to show plod if he should stop me. The penalty is the same for having a small plate or no plate. I even had a small plate with standard size numerals, plod were still grumpy

Get rid of the front plate, it does you no favours

First I cut down original, but this still leaves the plinth. I then removed the plate and plinth. Finally settled on a stick on (E-type style) no problems, full size, but read that it needs to be on a flat vertical surface. Still no probs after 2 years.

A £30 fine is non endorsable so you can't get a £30 and 3 points. You can get a £60 fine for a non endorsable offence or an endorsable offence depending on what the offence is. The fixed penalty ticket fines and offences have changed in the last 6 months or so to include failing to change address offences, and seat belt offences (which are now £60 instead of £30). Like the seat belt offence some of these new fixed penalty offences are £60 and no points.

Always carry a full size front plate in the boot just in case.

If you get pulled a quick apology and a plate change will go a long way.

How strange this topic came up, just got pulled over for my front plate, too small. Now having to replace it and take car to the police station or MOT garage to get the form stamped to say it's been done. My fonts were of the correct type, but way smaller than allowed. Fortunately the car had spent some of its life in Holland, so the officer treated it as an import, which allows the font size to be 64mm x 44mm. UK cars have to be 85mm x 65mm. Ran for 2.5 years with no probs, and ran my caterham, for years with no plate on, always carried one in the boot just in case. Police officer was very good about it, but did say it was non endorsable, £60 fine. Good job it wasn't something more serious, as he forgot to sign the form !!!

This worked for me and the officer was happy and left it at that, no fine/points. Small plate was back on the next day and never had any other problems.

These guys are very good. Select their show plates wizard, input your reg no. and select the 3/4 size plate (390x84mm). Job's a carrot!

Bloomin' 'eck. I was just checking your profile to see what gen of Lotus you had in case it was pre-2001 and I could recommend my stick plate option, but then gave up reading your currently and previously owned.

I guess £60 aint gonna phase you.
