Though you asked for VX220 as well, I've moved your topic here for you, plenty of knowledgeable VX/Lotus specific guys in this forum will be able to help thumbup

I'd strongly urge the OP to try a more local VX before buying.
The Elise/VX thing is fantastic but doesn't suit everyone.

I'm in Cavendish so only 35 mins or so from Colchester, don't have a VX but have a few S2's here you can look at?

Also bear in mind that although the VX and S2 interiors are broadly similar (tiny and sparce) they are also very different in their appearence. With (imo) the S2 having a far more comfy feel with the variation of materials and colours utilised when first opted

So if that bothers you sit in both.

The VX220 is like an S1.5 Elise. It's a LOT more comfortable than the S1 (and, IMO, the S2 too) but that's only because of the seats and the suspension, and that the engine is lazier and doesn't need to be thrashed. In terms of 'specification' it's more like an S1 than an S2 - lots more bare aluminium, the ventilation system is pretty lame, the heater is pretty lame (though not as duff as early S1s) and the manual-wind windows have the same silly 'adjustment' screws that seize up and don't work properly.

But you'll get out of a 400 mile drive in a VX220 a damn sight less battered than in an S2 Elise of contemporary vintage. There's something about the VX220 driver's seat that is more comfortable than any of the Lotus-branded cars' seats. Perhaps I'm a bit weird, but I found the tatty leather chair in my old VXT more comfortable on *long* drives than the fancy ProBax things in both my *much* newer S2 Exiges.

Whilst the interior of the VX220 is certainly utilitarian (its only concession to modern car cabins being the airbag steering wheel, which lives on in the current new cars) and would benefit *hugely* from a few more soft-touch surfaces, it's weirdly more comfortable than the Elise. So it's actually worth *driving* both, as they are both *very* different unless you take a VX220 and bung Exige settings on it in order to sharpen up the handling (as many do).

If I'd kept mine then I'd have had the dashboard and binnacle covered with grey alcantara. A chap in the vx220.org club had this done (in blue alcantara) to his car and it made the car look about 5 years younger. The S2 Elises and Exiges have this fabric on the dashboard, whereas the VX220 has bare plastic and is a bit spartan. If you go to see an S2 Elise and make the decision to buy a VX220 based on that, you may be disappointed... if interior styling is that important to you.
