Just a quick question more than anything else.

Will be keeping my Elise for at least another 2 years, by which time should have at least 70,000 miles showing (it being my only car etc).

Does anyone here have an Elise with that sort of mileage, or do you know of anyone ? If so, has there been any problems, ie metal fatigue etc ?

Cheers.

Mine's on 40k miles and no trouble whatsoever. Although this is quite far from 70k+

One of the guys from Lotus (not sure... Tony Shute?) who designed the car is still driving one of the first development cars (called 'ruby' I think) and it has 100+k miles on it.

Still going strong...

Bye, Arno.

Thought I once heard someone say that the ali chassis would only be good for 100k before getting a bit 'loose'. Sounded like a load of cobblers to me, have you heard anything similar Arno?

Can't see much wrong with 70k that regular servicing wouldn't solve. Will affect the resale badly though since most people expect them to be have much less (was selling mine with 24,000 on the clock and guy said that was too much, on a three year old car! Said he ideally wanted under 20...).

But when all's said and done, you'll be driving 70k anyway, do you want to do it in a fun car or not?

Take your point Chris and agree with you (though would enjoy the daily commuting grind even more in something like a 328 GTS).

Problem is though if that I do put such a mileage on the car in just 2 years and its worth next to nothing when I eventually do sell it, it may well make financial sense to get rid of it sooner than I thought, just to ensure I have some equity left.

One things for sure though, this Summer Im putting some real mileage on the car regardless.........

Would not worry over much

After 50k I think the price will be stable - as it will be an entry level Elise and so still be in demand -

(I think)

Remember looking at the show S2 135 that had been in all the magazines been thrashed round every airfield from lands end to JoG been round France, Jacked up on its sills - oops! All the usual bits had dropped off or discoloured rattled like a box of nails and had a very high mileage.

But at just £1000 off the pristine models it still had people queuing to buy it.
