Bloody 'ell!

I went home late last night, and as i approached my street, i spy-ed with my little eye, what seemed to be a maxxed car sitting in El 'beast's spot.

I park behind it and realised it was a Clio V6 . The front door opens and my older brother pops his head out.

[offtopic]

El 'star is a middle child, having an older brother, (year older), and younger sister and brother.

[/offtopic]

i hadnt seen him in ages as he is also at uni, as he took a year out (the plonker planned to "travel the world". He got as far as spain and got arrested . Cue lots of crying over the phone by him and my uncle going to fish him out of trouble . I still dont know what he did )

Anyway, our holidays always differ (even at christmas) so i hadnt seen him since the summer. Neither had he seen El 'beast. He was just home for the week, so it was just coincidence that we were home together.

Gave him a hug and said hello to all. Turns out my parents bought him the V6. Nobody told me Anyway, after taking a good look at it, i said "very nice, now move it from my space". He laughed and walked off, after commenting that my "hairdresser car is alright...if you like that sort of thing"

RIGHT. After dinner, i planned to show him what the "hairdresser car" could do. We got outside and he hopped into his and sped off! I had to move my sister's car first (which we "stole" in the summer and put some chrome wheels and a HUGE spoiler on it's proper bling! and she hates it ), then hoped in El 'beast and chased after him.

I knew exactly where he was going. The set of roads that we used to try and the get the back-end of the polo out (that we shared).

He was parked up, but started driving when i came into sight. Cue, 30minutes of size-ing each other up (i was letting him pass and vice versa).

A straight came up and he nailed it What a noise! it looked awesome as it through some water vapour up! However! El 'beast was more than up to it, and i kept pace until about 95 and off he went.

We stopped in a lay-by and he was smug as a really smug person, called smuggity McSmug, from Smugville.

We decided to do a few 0-60 drags. Well. being El 'star, was there any doubt? Out of 5 drags, El beast romped home 5 times. The next "comparison" we did was high speed cornering. I followed and him, and found myself being very, very surprised at how well it was taking corners.

I have to concede that he is the better driver, and was managing some nice little drifts, imbetween some high speed corners. El 'beast shat on him again though I was growing in confidence as i reminisced (sp?) at my mis-spent youth of taking these corners in my polo, "willing" the rear to give.

I was taking these corners very quickly, and the clio was nowhere to be seen! :smug:

I came to a sweeping bend and i knew straightaway i was going tooooo fast . I turned...but nothing first time it's understeered so i lifted off the throttle, and suddenly i was looking out of my side window at the road forward. It was akin to finding out your Salman Rushdie at Ayatollah Khomeini's exclusive dinner party, at his plush urban pad, with the other guests including Saddam Hussy, Abu Hamza and select delegates from Al Qaeda and the nation of islam. i.e. i was screwed.

I blipped the throttle and corrected it, and it eventually came back round. :Phew: My bro saw the tail-end (no pun intended) of it and said it looked awesome!

I decided to cool it after that, and just sized up the Clio. You know what? im converted. i didnt like the looks initially, but it grows on you. Ive never been in a tivver, but the straightline acceleration is staggering. The cornering is elise like...almost.

One thing struck me though. The clio finds it hard to get the power down. Not the traction, but it always seems to look faster than it is actually going. I cant explain it better, sorry. The elise, doesnt pay any attention to its surroundings (barring rain) and just goes. The clio seems to take stock of whats around it and then "adjusts" its speed/delivery accordingly. Kind of like, if it was a wide track in the summer (on Topgear) it would go alot faster than it did.

Doesnt detract from it being one hell of a machine (although the space is terrible) and a worthy alternative/track day car. I can just see it being a track-slag and slaying lizzes

Head to head with the elise? Elise wins. He admitted it, and retracted his "hairdresser" statement. He is/was slighlty gutted when i pointed out he could have bought an Exige and westfield for the same money!

He loved it so much, i heard El 'Beast being fired up during the night. God knows what awful things he did to him its going to time and councilling for El 'beast to recover

The moral? Head to head, the elise pips it. BUT, if any budding elise drivers are unsure of the straight line speed, try the Clio I can see why it was nearly COTY.

Quality motor! Im looking forward to thrashing the hell out of it in the summer (and further "maxxing" my sister's beetle ).

And J. if your reading. cut me up again and ill chop your nads off

Sounds like a lucky escape. Always easier to drive a front wheel drive car anyway but yeah they suffer getting power down. Presumably he has the new v6 as the old one was meant to be a complete handful.

p.s. Stop pissing about on the public roads...

Yep,I can see the headlines in the Guardian already 'Internet discussion group promotes illegal road races'

Still, should give you a chance to hone your practical skills, Dragstar. Correct me if I'm wrong (you being the Law student, after all) but isn't racing on the public highway an automatic loss of licence? If you can talk your way out of that one, you have a fine career ahead of you.

Still nice to know the Elise can show the Clio a thing or two!

Yes. I believe there are serious consequences for Racing.

In my defence, we werent really "racing" per se. If what we were doing was "racing", then so is a sunday morning run out with the local car club although granted, speed limits were broken.

Also, these were national speed limit, country roads in the dead of night. You can never be too careful and you can never be sure. But, i was as sure as i can be that it was safe.

Although upon reflection, i wont be driving at those speeds (on the roads) again . Lesson learnt!

Always always had a thing for those Clio V6s, call it an unhealthy obsession with quick + crazy French cars.
If I could afford and Elise or one of these for roughly the same price, I'd be very torn between the two.
But thanks to Dragster and his antics
I'd have to say I'd definitely fall on the Elise side now. Good to know the V6s do handle really well.

But not as good as an Elise!!!!

but V6 uuuuurrrrrmmmmmmmm

Not sure about all this french object being discussed -

Only thing Renault ever produced worthy of being driven IMHO was the Alpine - even one of the spanish built ones or just possibly a GTA.

These people built the Renault 19 !
