Morning all,

I need a luggage rack for Le Mans as I can't see me getting two people plus tent plus all the other bits and bobs in the Elise.

Where can I get a reasonably priced one - secondhand would be fine.

Does anyone have one I can borrow for the Le Mans weekend? (I'll give you a cheque as collateral (sp?))This would be preferable as I doubt I'd use it apart from one weekend a year.

Cheers

it'll fit in just fine

p.s. luggage racks seem to require permanent mods to the clams AFAIK.

Cheers guys,

Dan, I think you may be right about the body mods.

Any takers if I can design one with no body mods and under say, £250??

A roof rack! Top idea dragstar, easier to fit than the S1 roof and as watertight as the S2

How about ditching the roof rack idea and taking a caravan - must be something that Witter could knockup for us all !

The luggage rack in the piccy needs no mods at all...just sticks on with a bit of spit n suction pad. Takes a while to have the confidence to put any luggage on it but they do work.
Just take a bike chain and lock to le man or the garlic munchers will have your tent and case of stella!

Doesnt the luggage rack just turn the elise into a very fast moving barbeque for suitcases ?

If your drive to Le Mans is half what mine was last year your bags wont last till Dover .

You sure that rack didn't require permanent body mods? I saw the original prototype of Pete's as he was at the same 1st lotus day as me. I think his wifes company makes them or something. Anyway his I'm certain had metal retaining plates drilled in near the front of the rear clam.

You don't need one for lemans though. My girlfriend and I managed just fine although it did require very careful packing. Also we had gone out and bought some micro sleeping bags.

This year however, I shall be staying in a chateau

One way to do it is to forget the bags. Just put all your stuff directly into the boot. Saves quite a bit of space.

You could wear everything you are taking with you apart from sleeping bag of course, that would be silly and make for clumsy breaking .

If you have a hardtop, some people have fitted Ford Fiesta Mk5 roof bars (from Halfords) to that and carried 2 wheels on the roof.

I have to stress that I have not tried this myself, and I dunno what sorta load the roof will safely support.
