A friend of mine ordered one but it keeps getting delayed (march is the latest apparently) and they keep offering to give him back his deposit. Which isn't a great sign and he's understandably starting to suspect that he's being fobbed off and that Lotus have cancelled the program.
What's worse for him is that he sold his old Exige privately before Christmas to pay for the new car.
Does anyone know anymore about what's going on?
We suspect that either there was a problem with the matt paint that they can't fix, or they haven't recieved enough orders (they were only looking for 35 worldwide!) and have decided to pull the plug.

That’s out of order! Have you posted on Seleoc? they might have more infoWhat's worse for him is that he sold his old Exige privately before Christmas to pay for the new car.

Boggy
I popped into to Lipscombs in Maidstone on Monday to see what stock Paul Parkinson had.
I dont think Paul will mind me telling you that he has sold two Scura's.
When offered a guided tour of the showroom, workshops and storage areas, it was fantastic to see one of the Scura's sitting there waiting for delivery/collection. I fell in love with it, but wouldnt want to have to clean it (you get a special brush supplied with it!)
So they definitely do exist and have been produced. I think Paul told me that only 5 were destined for the UK.
Perhaps give Parky a buzz if you want any more information, he is certainly the man in the know.

thanks that's very encouraging
as for the price I was amazed it wasn't more for a bespoke paint job (matt with gloss black stripes it's hardly just 'a black exige' mr miseryguts), the carbon bits, suspension and engine upgrade from the 260 cup (itself all of £45k) plus loads of carbon inside including carbon seats etc, the list goes on. Given you can spec an Exige comfortably over £40 it appeared you were getting the paint job for nothing.

beggs the question, if it's such a bargain, why have you not brought one then?as for the price I was amazed it wasn't more for a bespoke paint job (matt with gloss black stripes it's hardly just 'a black exige' mr miseryguts), the carbon bits, suspension and engine upgrade from the 260 cup (itself all of £45k) plus loads of carbon inside including carbon seats etc, the list goes on. clearly we have very different perceptions of what things are worth...
£46k for a car I'd be frightened to take out in the rain for fear of damaging the paintjob - a paintjob so special it only comes with a 1yr warranty!
Lovely looking car but very high maintenance to keep it looking as it came from the showroom.
With 18month old Exiges at £25/26k I'd rather keep £20k in my pocket.

He had a porsche 911 and hated it with a passion
it makes him shiver with shame to this day that he ever bought one (from new as well poor soul)
so thanks for the advice but you're barking up the wrong tree here.
Personally I've found porsche dealers mainly arrogant, stuck-up, know-all douchebags, which I guess is how porsche owners like it.
Out of interest mr darcy? Why have you taken this as an opportunity to slag Lotus and promote Porsche? I can't quite see what's in it for you?

I picked up 2 Elise R's from the factory last week to conver to Elise Trophy spec and there was probably about ten Scuras waiting to go out. Looked great.
Our S1 race car was painted matt black for last seasons race, everyone commented on how good that looked, if you pait it right it's not too bad to look after, they key is in the lacquer.

For me it's a bit like the Boxster Spyder thingy, a great toy car if you're living in a drier environment like Spain or Oz but not so sensible for the UK.Lovely looking car but very high maintenance to keep it looking as it came from the showroom.

Oh dear, another gratuitous mention of Porsche...

£46K FFS
I mean, think of the cars you can buy for £46K
Whilst I don't disagree with you regarding Lotus pricing getting dangerously high, the bare cost argument never makes *any* sense with cars. For £46k you can get a 2 year old car that originally cost £80k, you can get Ferraris, Lamborghinis, etc. for that money.I mean, think of the cars you can buy for £46K
Depreciation makes buying brand new cars a completely pointless exercise unless either they're super-rare so depreciation isn't a concern, or that the cars are rare enough that you simply can't find one with the spec / colour you want on the market without waiting an indefinite amount of time. I can't see any reason to buy a new Ford Focus, for example, because you can easily find one with the exact spec you want on the used market.
Bit different for Lotus though. Whilst you can get a lot of used car for £46k, that argument makes virtually ALL new cars look stupid money (hell, look at Porsche - all the overblown hype about the then-new water-cooled flat sixes and RMS failure etc. has made early 996s dirt-cheap. Compare a 996 to a brand-new 997, at £70k or whatever - the numbers simply look silly).
If you compare brand new for brand new, what competition does Lotus actually have other than Porsche? And Porsche, brand new, are terrible value and the options list (some of which are NOT optional if you want easy resale) is very expensive. The only cars worth buying are GT3s and they both hold their value well and don't have loads of expensive options, they're entire packages. But they're significantly more expensive than £46k.
What car out there can you get for mid 40s that could be in *any* way comparable to an Exige?
Sure, I'd MUCH rather pay £25k for one, and that was my initial intention... but Lotus manufacturing processes are expensive and I doubt they're making Porsche-style profits on each car sold. I agree that it's a hell of a lot of money for what it is... but Lotus don't really have much competition in their little niche and they're charging what the market will bear.
The cars *are* selling, after all.

I'm sure he'd be happy with the customer service, but he'd have a Porsche instead of a Lotus, which he may not be happy with
