Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone has any experience of the turbo tchnics supercharger conversion for the exige? I am off to look at one, and the performance figures are pretty impressive. Does anyone have any real life knowledge of this conversion, rather than the stuff technics have on their website? reliable, safe, etc?
Cheers

I wonder how long it will be until a supercharger comes out for the new R!

Having driven one of the supercharged Elises it remains one of my favourite Elise variants.

Others will be better placed to comment on value for money and reliability etc, but it terms of power delivery it was superb. It simply felt like driving an Elise with a 3 litre engine.

We have some customers/freinds with TT'd Elises and have been very impressed with the install on their cars.

Not sure if we have ever had a TT exige in tho' (I will ask)

Despite a few teething problems in the beginning they seem to be quite reliable kits. and certainly produce the goods.

We would advise adding an oil cooler if you do go this route as cooking the oil seems to be the only real issue with these kits, from our experience.

You really need to speak to Bogie who has one in his S2 I am sure that he posts on here, you can also find him on SELOC and the BBS. He is also quite happy to take people out for a test drive in his impressive car! I will tell him that you were asking

I have a TT 230 Elise which is absolutely superb. Being the 230bhp option it is a very similar spec to the Exige (although lacking the final 30bhp). It is a pure trackday tool and has racked up over 40 full on trackdays hroughout Europe with only one minor fault. At Donnington a pipe in the intercooler split. Despite being out of warranty TT collected the car and fixed it for free. Can't speak highly enough of them. The engine itself is superb, loads of torque that makes it feel like a bigger motor but a top end that just keeps pulling. The only downside is the noise, doesn't sound very tuneful...

For an impartial view, Don Palmer took my car out for a few laps around Bedford and commented that it was the best trackday car he had driven in years.

I really can't recommend them enough (and no, I don't work for TT )

Mikey

You are right they can sound a bit like a bag of nails at times
But then all highly tuned cars do sound a bit ropey at low revs dont they? I guess its the sacrifice you make for all that extra power (IMHO)

A sacrifice well worth making in this case...!

Having said that, a supercharged toyota engined elise could be the best of both worlds

I run a TT215 i.e. started life as a S1 111S, the conversion is not quite standard and its about to become the development car for a vital piece of kit that will improve a particular problem that the 111S conversion suffers from.

I also benefit from a Oil Watercooler kit that Sinclaire's created especially for TT conversions, as standard kits did not fit due to the position of the off take pipe.

One of the cars biggest problems was the increase in engine heat which in turn came through into the cockpit of the car - and it could get very warm! The Oil Water cooler has cured the problem and along with the water recirc kit keeps the car running nicely even after a full TD. In terms of drivability its excellent, I drove the 111R on Saturday and mine is considerable quicker with instant pick across all the gears from low revs as you would expect with a supercharger.

I've had my issues with TT and to be fair they have all been resolved, albeit I had been back 6 times.

The TT conversion for the Exige is 260bhp, one of the SELOC guys also has an Elise with a 260 kit.

Combined with NITRON's and better brakes it makes a great B road blaster as well as a competent TD car.

An Exige with 260bhp will have a very hot cabin. Something to bare in mind if you don't solely plan to track it...

Exige 260TT is the most awesome trackcar I've ever been out in, Nobles, GT3's, Caterfields, eat your heart out!!! - only comp on day was a Radical.. Would not think they are your everyday car tho'. But fun fun fun

I can also recommend the TT conversions - well I did to Bogie I certainly wouldn't consider changing mine for a 111R. Obviously the TT260 is based on the VHPD engine which revs to 8k and has different cams etc. I don't have the details of the TT260 torque curve but the TT230 is very impressive.

The only real downsides are the fuel economy drops (due to having to drive the SC all the time), it's quite noisy, the engine does get warm, and you can run out of revs in fifth gear

I just hope that they do a supercharger upgrade for the Toyota lump so I've got something to upgrade to in the future.
