availability of new R elise
Discussion
Does anyone know how long one will have to wait to get the new Toyota powered Elise?I havn't emailed dealers as i've found them to be utter bullshiters.Had an Elise quite a few years ago and now thinking of bringing one out to NZ.Who's the best dealer to buy from these days as i've been out of blighty for a while?cheers.
Yes.
Got there. Wandered around looking for the parts dept, so asked a guy at one end where it was. "over there, through that door"
So i walk through, and a guy comes running over and says "excuse me sir, but customers arent allowed in here" fair enough i thought, but the guy did say walk through.
He tells me to wait while the body-shop opens/gets started, as it'll be "about 5 minutes". 25minutes later, a bloke wanders over to take some details and the keys.
Was told it'd be an hour. one and a half hours later, and im still waiting. in this time nobody offered me a drink or anything. AND? i hear you say? True, i dont expect to be pampered, as they are a business. but it's different when the guy is pouring drinks 30cm infront of your nose, no? just manners isnt it?
So, after this time DRAG had to go and ask WTF??
i swarmy guy, says "ill find out". off he goes. nearly 6-7minutes pass, and i sense he's stalling (it would take >30seconds to get to the bodyshop). He comes out and says "10-15 minutes mate". 20 minutes later, and a guy comes out wanting payment i hadnt seen it yet!
I pay anyway (didnt want to kick up a fuss, when they still had my car, out of site ) and wait another 10 minutes to get it round the front.
the wheels are filthy. dirtier than when i gave it too them. Coupled with the fact throughout the "ordeal" i was looked at as if i was complete scum.
would love to go back, with dad with cash to buy a Bently (sp?) and say "f off" when it comes to deal time
Bad service, but the young lad who dealt with me was alright.
i dont know. am i just fussy, or was this bad service?
will take me chances at CN next time.

If you like, I can arrange to get you one via the Australian/NZ distributor. They are excellent and have cars available now!
Although it sounds like you want to buy in the UK and personally import it, which is a good idea, especially in NZ where they have very relaxed import regulations compared to Australia.

Nick Whales in Birmingham are very good...
Lotus have already made a number of cars and dealers have already taken delivery of some.
If you are not to fussy about colour don't be fooled if they say We will have to order one in and it will be month to have it built...
Ask what colour they have got in and what lotus have in stock from the colours you like. Lotus beliver almost each week unless you want a car in a certain way.
Lotus will have a good number that have been built in stock in popular colours.
If your local dealers try pushing in a direction you don't just to move a car they have in stock that you dont want, just start looking around, get out a peace of paper with a list off other dealers numbers and start ringing around in there pressance. I bet it changes their helpfullness.
Say I an at my local dealer and they don't seem to helpfull in trying to get me into the car I want so I thought I would try someone else to see if I could get better service. Use the local dealer brochure and colour chart and even if you arn't getting any better service make it look like you are..
You can then play one off against another in front of your local dealer.
This works on delivery and price.
Dealers are very oftern up them selves because they think they don't need you but when you turn the tables and they think you are questioning their leval of service and sales support, and you may have found a better dealer that beats then they start to move a bit.

I've bought my last three Elises at Formula 1 in Newcastle. You couldn't be farther from the truth when you comment that all Lotus dealers are so far up themselves. The owner of this concern is an ex rally driver and passionate about cars as is the chief mechanic (and , in fact all of the staff). This is probably the most friendly dealership that I've ever used (anywhere). I would, and do recommend them to everyone. Try them. You won't be disappointed. I have just been for a test drive today in the new 111R and signed up for one when I got back. Looking forward to getting it now!
