This may sound really daft but am I the only one thats a bit gutted about the launch of the Elise 111R.

I mean I got my S2 8 months old last August for the same price you can buy a brand new one now

And I'm thinking when it comes to selling its gonna be a nightmare, and who knows what it will be worth in three or so years time! Probably not alot

I know I shouldn't think about it really and just enjoy the car but I don't fancy going into debt because the final payment for my Elise is way below what I was expecting!

Stupid 111R

I'm in exactly the same position. Got mine brand new in April 03.
Just don't worry... nothing you can do. Just drive the arse off it and enjoy!!

Maybe look at getting a new job that pays loads more and you won't care!!

it's inevitable though isnt it?

a newer car always come along and isnt shy about using you as a toilet bowl to curl one off on.

-your car is quicker to 100.

-at least you can afford to run an S2, in the first place! many who work as hard/harder cannot afford one. count yourself lucky. i thank my lucky stars every night (unless im slaughtered, then ill just pi55 in the sink )

-at least its not a vauxhall

-It looks the same anyway. personally, waiting for the post 6k hit in the back isnt for me.

-I reckon prices will hold up well (not as well as the "classic" S1 though

-You love it dont you? enough said.

El 'beast and El 'star have fallen out. Must be the attention i've been giving a 996 GT3. The B1tch has decided to eat near 1k (all consumables-needed doing)of my student loan this term alone not including petrol/oil. Its akin to being bent over by a turkey, pi55ed off due to losing a giblet, in possesion of an Amsterdam-special "rampant rabbit". (he's got a big-'un). but i doubt i'd sell it for a long time.

What im trying to say is...stay away from turkeys and cars will come and go. so long as you enjoy your car, to hell with the rest of 'em

PS, lesson for all. elises are like women. the more you ride it, the more it rinses you, ££-wise

No.

elises are like mother-in-laws.

they entice you with their sultry looks. soon..its all you think about. you try not to look, but you cant help it.

then one day... she throws you a knowing glance. what to do?, what to do? you are covered with a Mungo-esque mixture of excitement but with reservations.

You soon get chatting. "What kind of films do you like?" could so easily be, "what sort of MPG, do you return?" indeed, the analogy is striking.

After a while you you take her for a ride. Its wrong, but who cares. this is what riding is all about.

she feels tight but exciting, much better than your previous model/wife.

before you know it, your continuing to ride on a daily basis. this is where complications arise.

The novelty has worn off, and although you still enjoy a good ride, the costs are hurting. but mid-ride, you couldnt cars less.

its that love hate thing. El 'beast could take a running jump (Take Bonce with him ), from where im sitting. But its different in "mid-ride".

Mother-in-Laws. discuss.

Are you sure about that? I thought I read that the new 111R is virtualy identical to the VX220T on the 0-100 time and that is surely quicker than a S2 111S.

Not sure where some of these figures come from. Maybe some of you should actually drive it before shooting off false data. The S1111 and S2 111 I tried after the R felt rather sluggish by comparison in real life - not 'what I read' somewhere or guessed etc. Drive it!

I apologize i misread what Danny said when he said:

"13 seconds to 100?! Blimey - shows the impact of all that extra weight. My similarly powered early S1 elise (Honda K20A) manages 100 in sub 10s. I can live with the noise, zero aircon and rain, just about! "

i feel terrible. after spitting out such false data, the sales are going to plummet

Dragstar - I'm starting to worry about you!!

I said it before, I was a little stung when I bought my ex-demo 2001 Racetech when the Official Lotus Line was "We wont be launching a S2 111S becasue it won't pass the emmissions laws." Yeah, right.

Things will settle down in a few months. I don't think that 111S values will tumble. Yes there will be an adjustment, but things will level out, very much as they did after the S2 first came out. The market goes into a kind of limbo when everyone is waiting for the new model to come out, so prices are very wobbly.

I got £1500 of my 111S new. I do circa 12K P.A. in it, and I can't afford to change it until after I'm married, which is at least 18 months, so what the hell, I'll just drive it and enjoy it. At 35+mpg I think the pence per mile cost is still very good indeed.

Besides, Lotus will launch a hotter 111R in due course, mark my words. They must, to trump the VX220T. Any, how far away is the S3????

S3 is due in 2006. I presume the same toyota lump will continue considering the tens of millions the regulations just cost Lotus to get it stateside.

Dragstar - you are priceless!
I had a break from being a BiB a few years ago, and went to work for another "law enforcement acency." During that time, (I had internet access at work) I was XPLOD. So I continued the theme!

looks the same as an Elise 111s. No-one will tell the difference unless they see the back of it.
