Eight months ago I ordered a Porsche Boxter S and paid my £2k dpoosit against the £47K car. Today, I went to get a trade in price for my 2001 Y reg Race Tech Cobolt Blue Elise S2. I was offerred £14k. Has anyone else experienced trade in values like this? If so, what was the outcome? If all they can offer is £14k I'd rather keep it. If this is their final offer, does anyone know where I stand with the £2k deposit I've already paid?

Sounds about right as a p/x price, bear in mind a new 118bhp Elise can be bought for a little over £22k and yours is 3yrs old.

How much do you expect to loose on the Boxster over 3yrs? Suggest you work on sheding 20k!

Thanks for your responses, their offer just appears a bi low when you know they are going to sell if for £19k + and the profit they are making on the Porsche. Guess I need to improve my negotiating skills!

as Marcfair knows a '01 Y plate Race Tech is not going to make 19k retail with average mileage @ 14k they arnt doing you any favours regards p/x value but its about its trade worth in view of the recent shake down in Elise values, with New Elise prices starting at 22k and 111S at 25k

Porsche Stealers are also remarkably mean with any trade ins. Probably better off selling it privately?

I traded in my 2001 Racetech (13K on clock) in Oct 02 against my new 111S. I got £18K for it. This was quite good, as the Racetech needed new rear tyres, some minor paintwork and was only a few thou from its next service. It went on the forecourt at £20 995.
Speaking to the salesman a few months later, I think they sold it for circa £20250, and the car owed them near on £19K, by the time it has been fully sorted, serviced, new tyres, VEL, warranty etc... So I think a £3K mark up is about right.
Your Racetech now would not retail at any more than £17 995 with any dealer who wanted a chance of selling it. So £14K is a little on the mean side, but as people have said, that's the Porsche dealer being mean.
Best bet would be a private sale, ask £16495 and look to take £15500.
Good luck!

£16000 in a private sale should be pretty easily attainable IMHO.

I'd aim for 17,500 private and see how it goes. 14k is a joke.

This is what Parkers web site says for a race tech on a Y - but then who knows how recent this data is!

Original Price £ 26115
Dealer Retail £ 20160
Private Good £ 19620
Private Poor £ 16740
Trade £ 18360

As a quick review, dealers on auto trader are knocking them out at 17500 (could not see any private sales)

Thanks for all your replies. When I paid the £2k deposit on my Porsche and named the spec, I wish I'd insisted on a price for my Elise at that point - but they did promise me a good deal! My Elise was registered on 02/08/01 - 4 weeks before the 51 plates came out but I'd been promised it in June and was waiting to go on Holiday to France in it. Today, it has done 19k miles, new rear tyres 4 weeks ago, mint condition! Mustard - I'm not surprised you don't have any - every dealership in this area is selling them for more than £17,500. I don't have a lot of time to sell it privately now, so looks like I'll need to bite the bullet on this one!

35k on that cheap one is astronomical mileage for an Elise.
