Hi all. Just wandering what the best induction kit is for the elise s2 k series. What is the hurricane kit like?
Cheers

all pretty much the same

hurricane is good VFM and middle of the price bracket

ITG one of the more expensive

then some of the K&N and other clones at the lower end

most will be within a bhp or two of each other ..in other words, its neglibible that you could tell a difference on your bum dyno

..mainly about noise...and letting high power engines breathe better ....but usually by the time you need an induction kit on a K series, you are getting to the point where you need to fit direct to head throttle bodies and their filter

so in other words - fit one if you want it to sound more meaty, but dont expect performance gains....

No not expecting much in performance gains just looking for a better noise. Any idea which one produces the best noise?

they all sound pretty good

loudest would be an open cone filter IMO, but they are also poorest for any performance

Id just get a Hurricane...its a good all rounder, and proven for many years now smile

Ive got a K&N 57i. It is a noisey filter but i like the noise. Some think its chavvy but thats their choice. Its a 4 pot rover so there isnt much you can do to be honest!

Its not enclosed, so you do hear that its sucking in hot air and is therefore detrimental to performance. Mines knocking out north of 160bhp (with a little more than just a filter), so it breaths well enough. I think once youre moving there is plenty of air movement round the engine anyway. The elbow on the filter shoves the cone right down in the direct line of the air intake anyway!

Cheaper than the Hurricane, I think it sounds better and I dont imagine the Hurricane will give you any performance advantage that you would notice!

And by far the most expensive.

K&N here which came on the car: over four years on I still haven't got around to either replacing it or enclosing it!

Got a Hurricane on my 111S. It sounds fantastic - makes a bigger difference to what the driver hears at low speeds and wide open throttle up to about 4500rpm than an exhaust.

Just make sure you clean and oil it regularly though (6 months - maybe 12 for low use). I've heard of instances of Hurricane's mesh corroding (there are some horrible pics on SELOC).

I have no idea what my exhaust sounds like at wide open throttle because I can't hear it over the K&N induction! I'm tempted to fit a standard airbox I have to see how much difference it makes.

Is the carbon hurricane worth it over the standard ie any significant weight reduction or purely £60 for a cosmetic change I'll never see? Askng as thinkng of getting one for my liz s and not sure if to go for blue to match car or carbon.

I can't see the weight difference being more than a few grammes- not worth the outlay unless you particularly like the carbon look.
I personally wouldn't bother, mines red and I think it looks cool enough.
