Can you get engine install parts to rebuild them though?

well, depending who's parts your talking really, I can't speak for others, but Link-up kit parts are available from their dealers.

The real question you should be asking is how much stuff you would need.....

Tim's car appeared recently because he only just decided to take that route with it. He has considered a re chassis but he has just bought a quick bike so is going to have a crack at a few track days with that instead. don't know about the other one.

Presume we're talking about 280446960823

I thought the accepted wisdom was that rear end impacts were taken by the subframe and you would be unlucky to damage the chassis this way?

He was unlucky, the rear wheel came around and forwards and hit the side of the chassis rail.

Well, it looks a whole lot happier than 120512132836. Seller says he's seen that type of damage repaired...eeek!

£4k + vat IIRC, the question comes up a lot here and on SELOC...

If you've got the tools and the time, some of these salvage cars make great value projects (assuming you like stripping / refitting for fun, and you're not costing your time).

I'd want to know that the components you're going to reuse are OK though, for the cars that had obviously been in MAJOR stacks. I wouldn't want to reuse a seat, for example, that had been in a 100 mph stack where the tub ended up getting twisted / smashed in.

I guess the experts like Sincs would know which components on a crashed Elise should be safe and OK to use again on your rebuild.

It's a LOT of work to refit from a bare chassis. It's doable for sure, but it's not just a couple of weekends in the garage with the spanners. With my Exige project I've stripped it mainly back to a bare tub, and I've been at it two years wink

He's been wasting time training a whole load of cats to use tools and help him. Definitely the first animal I'd choose as assistance for a Lotus rebuild...

Haha Simon, I bet it's easy for you when you've done it a few times. It's also easier if you can work on it full time day and night. I have to stick to evenings and the occasional weekend frown

But yes, point taken... must pull finger smile

Do you loose car identity/reg if you replace chassis? I remember a friend doing this on a classic Lotus and ending up with a Q? registration.

no, not if it's done right (paperwork wise).
